Hey mate, No disrespect but WTF happened there???
I didn't think the running in reverse thing was possible... Damn that's rotten luck, if there is one consolation you're still breathing!
What engine and what ratio was the transfer case in?
Like Nisshead I am curious about how there was enough traction to put sufficient torque back through a fully locked drive train to Diesel a Petty with brakes hard on?
Only want to know so it doesn't happen to me somewhere some day...
First gear low range. With 33s. The angle of the hill was close to 40 degrees so heaps of weight on the back wheels and front lokka engaged.
Also it's a carby model so maybe when it flooded it put enough fuel in to ignite it backwards.
Sorry tb42. Standard gearing.
OK, now that's scarey.
When it was rolling back I was thinking I might end up going over backwards
When you see me stop on the way back and keep on going is when I realise the engine was turning backwards. I got a little busy trying thinking wtf is going on and am I still in the tyre ruts.
At no point until the car actually rolled did I think I was in trouble. It felt as though I was fine then BAM on my side
And that folks, is usually how sh1te happens.... if we all got sufficient warning, I doubt anyone would get into the sh1t.
I think that Shane did a bloody good job and, having watched the vid, stayed really calm throughout.
Some lessons to be learnt for all. Just happy no one hurt as the 'Trol can be, easily enough, replaced.
Shane, depending on what sort of Patrol you're after as a replacement, I may have a lead on a LWB GQ that I have been watching myself. (It's set up as a tourer but I wanted it to race.)
Time for an upgrade to a GU now. :D was a very slow roll over though. Good to see no one was hurt.
Thanks guys.
I am going to wait until the insurance gets settled then look for a new patrol. Not sure what to look at yet but I think It will definately be injected wether it's diesel or not I will wait and see.
If it's a gu i lol have some really nice q barwork to sell. Haha
Not going to bother mate. Don't have time or the area to strip it down. Plus my mrs would shoot me if I came back home with it.
Send the pics in to 4WD Action magazine. You never know - you could be lucky:driving2: and win a set of driving lights!
So how's all this going? I guess your looking into a gu seeing all these gq parts for sale??
Yeah looking for a newer patrol more like a 4.8 gu found some nice ones with less than 200000km have to get them pass the boss
just tell her your buying it for her...it worked for me....
Shame about your truck mate, hope you have more luck with the new one!
Thanks guys. There's a couple that are on gas and I am dubious about duel fuel honestly. For me I always believed on either straight gas or straight fuel. Dunno
Never owned one but after seeing the issues the duel fuelers have with tuning and engine wear I'd be straight petrol any day of the week.
In saying that. Is a 4.8 harder to turbo compared to the efi 4.5??
Don't honestly know mate there's a couple of turbo 4.8 over here but they get snapped up real quick
Regardless, you don't need to bother. It goes well as it is. I'm sure out of UAE they do all sorts to these engines, but if you want it as a daily and well performing weekend machine 4.8 is already excellent. Just not gonna tour as easily as a deiesel to the middle of nowhere. Depends on your usage profile I guess. Even taking into account fuel, the price for a good 4.2 TD in a GU is so much more that it will buy you a lot of fuel. Would I prefer the diesel? Probably, but can I afford it? Nup :)
I loved mine, but have to admit I was only paying 15c per litre in fuel.
The single biggest issue with the 4.8 is keeping fuel up to it. Mine is on lpg which gimped the distance I could travel until I replaced the sub tank with a long range unit.
J
@ 93 I'm sure you and the missus would fit a 4.8 Ti perfectly.
plenty of bells whistles and knobs to play with.

Looking at this for the new wagon
Never been on LPG, comes with bar/winch/snorkel.
Not bad bad at all, it could be a smidgeon overpriced but not too much IMHO.
Aparently it is dual fuel. That's the only thing holding me up on it
I don't think gas is worth it these days
No doubt. Just looking for the right patrol for the right price. If I can find one of those then I won't end up in a pajero which is what the mrs wants me to get
