Don`t really venture into Wales to be honest. Scotland is the wildlife haven over here really. So I tend to drift up there when I can.

Hopefully one day, i might be able to take quality shots like yours mate!
Regards,

You have a Canon 60D, so you can mate.
One from Abu Dhabi december 2011.Shooting into the sun is not recommended, but I wanted something different with the shadows and light coming at me.

Nice work mate, very jelous you went to Dhabi, id love to go just to look at some of the buildings !
We were down in Al Ain, never got near the big cities to be honest.
I tried changing your other pic, but the original looked better to be honest, so never bothered posting it.
This is one at the start of the saluki racing, guy in the middle looks like he is praying for a win.

The locals all chase the dogs around the track in 4x4s. I met a guy there who took me on a desert trip in his patrol. It was that which persuaded me to get a Patrol rather than another Hilux.
Ill have to look up where Al Ain is, cos i have no idea im afraid.
Yeh cool about the pic, its funny how cropping can change a picture so much (sometimes good, sometimes not so good) thanks for trying anyway.
I love the pics , i must admit i find the white words a little distracting for my first impression on those shots, (especially on the dark sand) as my eye is always drawn to this first before whats in the image.
So do you know if they are Greyhounds, or some other breed of dog ?
Great pics of the birds, what equipment are you using?
They are Salukis, arabian hunting dogs, like small greyhounds, very thin and very quick.
Any shots that I have sold or have for sale are watermarked mate, saves people pinching them, they can clone or crop it out, but they will know they have done that, I can prove they have done so, thus I can hit them with an unauthorised use invoice. It happens a lot to be honest. It is theft when all said and done.
I use Nikon, but other makes are just as good, the human input behind the camera makes the biggest difference to be honest. I guess my most used lenses are my 500 and 300mm F4 prime lenses.
Cool, yeh i guess if you dont want it copied, dont post it hey, but then its very hard to sell it, so catch 22 !
Ive never heard of a unauthorised use invoice before, are you getting commissioned to shoot , or just sell stuff freelance ?
And is there a "acting like a ignorant pig invoice", i could hand a few of them out (ha-ha)
Spot on !, i know lots of people who have a much better camera than myself, does not mean they can take a decent picture !
Half decent camera must help, but I think you need that knack of knowing how to compose {frame} a photo.
plus what worth shooting and whats crapola,
Yeh the Camera does definatly help, although ,some cheap point and shoot cameras have as good a sensor as my old canon now, and are capable of great shots in the right hands.
Really, i see the main benefit of owning a DSLR, is all about the ability to change lenses, this allows the user to be so much more versatile.
But as you say, if you don't have a idea how to compose a shot, i doubt you will get many good ones, but if someone is not very good, but is still having fun, then nobody has the right to take that away from them !
Last shots from my trusted D300, they ain`t a bad old thing.
All shot with the70-200 and 1.7 tc

Good cameras help, good lenses help even more mate. But patience is the main thing. Sometimes I sat for hours without seeing anything worth taking a shot of, sometimes I see loads within an hour of sitting down.
I struggle with landscape stuff, I see what I think is a great scene, take the shot and then realise it is crap when I get home. But it motivates to get better and try again. Entry level DSLRs are very good now, learning how to use them is the big thing that lots of people forget to bother with.
But as long as you enjoy what you do, what does it matter.
Sorry mate ,only just seen this.
I have done lots of commissioned work, mainly for country estates and industries over here. It is a very difficult market to get into as the people are very wary and tend to use people they trust. Since our economy went pear shaped, it is more to do with who you know now rather than what you know.
Unauthorised use? An example for you, some business in the UK decides they like one of my shots, they nick iot off the web and use it to promote themselves via advertising, if I spot it, then I send them an unauthorised use invoice. because the theiving gits didn`t buy it, they stole it. Basically, anything you post on the net can be stolen, the hard part is finding if they are being used commercially.
The earlier shot of the peregrines won we a good prize and sold for a good sum of money. But shots like that are not everyday type shots.
First of all, those bird shots are unreal ! i like the bokeh from that lens with converter, i feel like i could really reach out to them , very nice indeed mate !
Im the other way around, i get real booooooooored sitting around waiting for animals and living stuff, but with landscape, the shot is pretty much there for discovery, and the best part ,it doesn't "move" (well i guess sunsets kinda move, but you know what i mean)
Yeh that would really s#!t me if someone stole my pic for commercial purposes, (your safe AB, you asked first, lol)
Actually, now i think of it someone has, I saw the guy on ebay selling the rear door strut kits for GUs, not only was he selling my idea like "he" thought of it, but he even stole the pic of my car and used it on his ad !
Rear door strut kits? You got a link to them mate.
Reminds me, must get some gear ordered of threedogs.
Here is a link to my original thread.....
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...the-small-door)
one of the first pics you see, is the one that got used without permisson on the ebay ad, and the cheeky bugger, in a different ad for a strut for a GQ door, was saying something like, he will take legal action if anybody copies his strut designs !
Just look on ebay if you want to buy one , they pop up from different sellers all the time, and range from about $50-$70, its a awesome mod !
Cheers fella, cracking idea.
I think I have a small strut in the garage at home,i`ll see if it will do the job.
Great pics as usual. Especially love the finches. Believe it or not we have recently started getting Goldfinches in our garden here, only since the big fires around here in 2009. No Greenfinches though.
Cuppa
I really know nothing about Aussie brid and wildlife, time to do some reading up for me mate.
Splashed out on a D800 today as well. I`ll give it a whirl at the weekend, take some snaps of the car now it has its new lift fitted.
@ fractser nothing better than seeing a flock of green Budgies in the wild.
then all the sulphur crested, major mitchell, corellas cockies.
Then the red tail black, gang gang, Some awesome wildlife,
Didnt get too close but this chap in the pic waddled through camp
last saturday arvo, had to be 6 ft easy.
What is that TD?
Its called a Goanna and a big one at that, not sure of species, Up the Northern Territory the big ones are called Perenti.
It was feasting on dead fish. Here you're not allowed to return Carp to the river, huge no, no and big fine as well.
Weather is bloody awful over here, but managed an hour yesterday. This is a massive crop from the original shot, the D800 gives you that option.
This is a coal tit, very small bird.

One i`ve been after for ages, these got quite rare at one stage as people converted barns to houses. Anyway, the guy who owns the estate let me put some nest boxes up in some barns on his land, they reared 3 young last year and are back this year.
Barn owl.

that white stuff in the background is snow, in case y`all was a wondering.
Nice pics.
Some places over here do get a bit of snow now & again.
This is my place in August 2005. We usually get a few light falls each winter, but that year was the heaviest.
That is a cracking shot of your house Cuppa, looks a great place as well. I would love a house in the country but they are silly money over here.
Rusty, I use a 300 and 500 f4 primes for most of my wildlife stuff.
Jas, i`m really impressed with the Auto focus on the D800. It was just a matter of dialling in some negative exposure to get the whites of the bird to show against the snow.
Nuthatch from the weekend.
