It's easy as Eric. Mark is on the money. Remove the pipe work, undo the 4 bolts that hold it on the Intercooler. You'll then see 2 little brass screws that hold the butterfly to the spindle, simply unscrew them. They're a bit tight so be careful not to butcher the screw heads. Reassemble. It would be virtually next to impossible to do it on the car. You'll end up with these bits left over.

I got it off the forum (or the other one, can't remember) on the benefits of removing it. It certainly fixed my flatspot at about 2,100rpm. Can't comment on what it did to my boost as my boost is wound up a bit (12psi) through a boost controller gadget.
I removed my entire egr system. Egr pipe, egr cooler, vac lines, solenoids and butterfly.
The "throttle body" is there so at a determined point programmed into the ecu it will close and allow more exhaust gas to enter the intake manifold. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Now the td42 system is very basic and can be removed without anything happening, no engine light, limp mode etc etc. It will not effect boost.
I would recommed, if you havent already, block the egr and remove the butterfly at the very least. Removing the egr cooler will remove some load from your cooling system if you go this far.
Thanks for clarifying that up fellas ! It's a no brainer, block the egr remove the butterfly... This weekend !
Got the car back today. Few things done. New bullbar, compressor, 2" OME lift kit, roof rack, awning and most importantly the exhaust ! 3" ...
Definitely changed the power behavior of the car. Lots more up and go when she gets going and gave it a very nice tone with that sweet whistle.
While dropping off Mudski at JPC today I spoke to the bloke and he said, within minutes easily will be tuned for lots more down low power now that she has the exhaust on. And in his own words, get the EGR blanked ASAP, which is what I also got today thanks to Mudski ! Will be fitted tomorrow amongst a few other goodies...
