Thread title says "lets talk cricket" Id rather not.
Whats with trying to win a 5 day game on the first day.
Gone are the days of Boycott and Taverey blocking for
hours on end. Im blaming 20/twenty for this plus they shouldnt be allowed those
bats with the 50mm edges, save them for the short game.
Cricket for the purist is over, Im sure the members of the MCC over there agree
Oh and pray for rain and lots of it lol

Darren Lehmann: Not selecting cricketers a mistake
Australian head coach Darren Lehmann has conceded not selecting any cricketers contributed to Australia’s disastrous first innings at Trent Bridge.
“Hindsight is 20/20 but a score of 60 runs all out suggests selecting some people with a working knowledge of a cricket bat would have been beneficial.”
Cricket Australia have put out a call to any Australians currently in England who have played cricket at any level to make themselves known.
“We’re looking for anyone who’s ever held a cricket bat in anger. Beach cricket, kanga cricket, backyard cricket, Crown & Andrews Test Match,” said Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland.
“Anyone who knows the difference between the handle to the other end of the bat really.
“People who have shown a history of trying and not surrendering the minute things are tough would be nice too.”
Lehmann says he takes full responsibility for not selecting cricketers and admits it’s embarrassing that he contributed to Stuart Broad looking good.
“I understand that to Australians, Stuart Broad’s happiness is the salt in the gaping wound and for that I offer an unreserved apology.”
However, Captain Michael Clarke said being an Australian batsman at the moment is nice work if you can get it.
“I wouldn’t call it work. It’s more like collecting millions of dollars for a brief public appearance.”
“Now that runs aren’t an essential criteria for the job, it opens up being an Australian cricketer as a career for millions of people.”
Australian cricket fan Sara Thomas said the Australian team should donate their salaries to all the alcohol she’ll need to try to forget this indelible stain on Australia’s soul.

Said it all along 20/twenty and fat bats have ruined test cricket forever.

so you are forced to play shots. It will never happen so I will say it

Thats the problem, thats what the aussies are doing. This is Test cricket, not 20/20.
Agree Tuppas pic is a classic. Should be emailed straight to the aussie changerooms with a message to play like men. This is not fancy pants IPL pyjama hyjinks where nobody gives a toss who wins or loses, so long as its flashy and exciting; but hard and gritty Test cricket where courage, determination and strategy are required and the respect of cricket fans (Australian and English) are won or lost.
Unfortunately for Australian fans our team has been neither tough nor gritty and is being mocked. Toughen up, have some pride and play like a warrior. This is not slap and giggle.
To date i have had the highest regard for Clarke's captaincy. He is an excellent strategist (imo better than Ponting and Waugh, akin to Tubby Taylor) but something's not quite right at base camp and it's showing through.
I say moustaches be made mandatory for inclusion in the team! Bring back tough!

Dreadful shot selection by the majority of the Aussie batsmen. Playing at balls that they didn`t need to,trying to score quickly, especially in the first innings. I reckon there are behind the scene turmoils going on.
England played well in the last test, but why did Aus bat the way they did? Dreadful performance by the batsmen, truly pitiful.

10th August 2015, 06:56 AM
If memory serves me right, Johnson had a shocking tour last time the Ashes were in England, but grew a massive handlebar for the next series in Oz and set about tearing the poms new ones, multiple times, to lead the Aussies to a 5-0 whitewash. That, right there, is scientific, peer-reviewed and undeniable proof of the majestic power of the lip lizard!
Boony, Border, Big Merv, Chapple, Marsh, Lillee. All legends, all would not be seen dead with a fluffy duck in hand or a diamond stud in both ears. Blokes we looked up to as kids and dreamt of being as rugged, mean and gritty as they were. The pure essence of tough and formidable.
Yes, my fellow Australians, it is time for a revolution! No player can be selected to play cricket for this country without a hairy upper lip. The bigger it is, the higher their pay and biggest mo gets captaincy!! With this action plan in place we are guaranteed to win the next 5-test series at least 7-0, maybe even more!
Dont think Smitty can grow facial hair yet lol

Thats exactly it Fracster all the batsmen bar Rogers gave their wicket away, the bowlers never had a chance as there was no total of substance on the board. Be interesting what happens in this 5th Test even though its all over.

First test on Thursday, any thoughts on "that" pink ball they want to use.
Not convinced its the correct colour if they could get a white dye to penetrate
the leather better it would last longer when scuffed.
Personally I just think its a gimmick, and they should stop changing the game.
Its already stuffed IMO due to 20/Twenty where you score all your runs in 10 mins.

and decides to tamper with the ball to gain an edge, My opinion only but hope they sack him
never to play cricket again along with his hench men, He alone has embarrased every Aussie.
Wanker comes to mind but never been a fan of him or Warner, loved guys like Gilchrist and Symons.
Hope they throw the book at them, this is going to take years to recover from, to Adrian Im sorry
and ashamed of our Australian cricket team, not a good role model for the young kids coming through the ranks
Im ticked off big time isnt $1m a year plus not enough plus extras . If you lose you find out where and train harder to fix it.

It is all very disappointing, from what I have read over here, the Aussie team are not popular in thier own country, nevermind anywhere else.
Piss poor of Smith and whoever else to let the new be the one to be caught.
Main thing that annoys me is the way Smith admitted it, like it was nothing. Saying that, they are not the first and wont be the last, but for Gods sake, show a bit of sublety.

I think the point thats being missed is that sport at this level is not a pastime, its a business, and winning has prizes and expectations. The guys are no doubt on performance based packages, the sponsors want a winning team for their money. I don't condone what has happened, and no doubt its happened before but gone undetected, however with the amount of money floating around for this entertainment, its turned into a case of win however you can, for all the reasons we probably detest.
The disappointing thing for me is amateur sports look up to the players at this level and think they retain the same passion and sportmanlike attitude that they carry into the game they love to play. Probably the players are miles apart in the ethics stake.

It was just something which turned up on my FB page Bob.
As it is, it seems that Josh Bornstein is a fine upstanding citizen. Left & proud of it. http://joshbornstein.com.au/about/
But let's face it - the humanitarian aspect of his quote is not, & should never be 'party political'.
ps. I don't expect you to share my views - just like the 'old days' alongside the Murray eh? . :)

They have their penalty they dont need the booing and 2 yr old reaction from others.
Leave their families alone and get on with rebuilding and healing this BS.
Going to hurt them in the pocket big time with sponsors walking out.
Its done its over move on.
Maybe bring back Pup as a captain??

Been a testy subject TD and the players involved have been vilified enough I think , one positive is I don't think an Aussie player will ever be tempted again to do the same thing .

... especially not when in every other case IIRC and as per the ICC the guilty dudes have only gotten a match fee fine and/or demerits and/or a one match suspension.
Ball Tampering is a low grade and very common offence but an offence it is.
IMHO the individual country should apply penalties above the ICC.
Strip the Capt and Vice... yes
Send the dickheads home from a test series... yes
Add a few more matches to the ICC suspension... yes
12 months instead of a few matches/month... total bollocks and several magnitudes worse than any other dude has ever copped.
But totally agree that Smith and the ACB handled the whole thing abysmally... only a John Cleese Traning Vid would have got it that far wrong.

I do think they went overboard but saves them selves $4mil.
Will be hard to convince sponsors to return, as aussies we will heal this matter
and soon enough be back as no 1 it'll take time sure but we will recover'
Feel for Boof he was a great coach, going to be interesting what the new lineup

Good point... most Cricket balls have been either violently beaten or screwed by up to 22 blokes.
An exfoliation treatment is probably a kindness really.
