Hi everyone, this is my TD42 GQ. I bought it on the 9th of Feb 2013. It had 235,000kms on the clock with HEAPS of extras, the best being a turbo!
I am 3rd owner, first owner was an old guy who bought it brand new and never took it offroad, then an auto electrician bought it off him 2 years ago and did all the mods to it. Now it's my turn!

It's currently peaking at 25lb boost. Too much IMO especially un intercooler. It has a boost controller. What is a safe setting?

I got a PM from MudRunner the other day after I had been talking to him at Woods Point about how I want to buy a diesel. I have been looking every day for about 3 months and found a lot of nice ones but nothing that really got my attention. Well bloody hell this is almost perfect. 2 owners, first owner was an old guy who bought it brand new (still has all original log books and receipts) and two years ago he died. This auto electrician bought it off him with big plans, spent a lot of money on suspension, turbo, etc... he has a kid on the way and his wife said he needs something safer so bought a brand new car. In result I got an awesome TD42 GQ for an awesome price. So happy!!! Here's his ad from MudRhino.



Selling my beloved patrol un-regretfully because ive got a brand new ranger coming on the 30th. As you can see from the pics shes a little dirty, usually have her detailed once a month but the guy is on holidays till next week. Car has 235,000km on the clock, im the second owner, meticulously looked after and no expenses spared. also comes with original pump (still good just upgraded to the 11mm)
makes 25psi at 3800rpm, but rarely sees 15psi and its daily driven

Very nice, back the boost off to around 16 to 18, when I got mine it was running 25 to 26 and went like a bullet but my mechanic told me it was way to high after he replaced my clutch and rear seal.

Swapped bars over today. Decided to keep the body lift as it's a bit of effing around removing it and the bar looks okay on it? Drives sooooo good! Previous owner is a freak with his wiring. It's so tidy, he must be so anal about it.

33s on standard Nissan 15 steelies with a crao offset! Putting them on the party bus and keeping my tyres.

It's really not that high. Body lift was put in to stop the 33s from scrubbing. But of course you know best and will tell me I'm wrong......

Yeah it always changes but diesel is actually about 4c cheaper than petrol at the moment, it's usually a little bit dearer.

I think he is pretty spot on. The size of the turbo and no intercooler will also have a bit to do with it as well. At a guess your turbo size will be similar to Nissannewby's, he may be able to advise you better.
But, with diesel YOU NEED THE FUEL TO MAKE THE HEAT, YOU NEED THE HEAT TO MAKE THE BOOST. wind the fuel up!!!!!:smiley_thumbs_up::smiley_thumbs_up::smiley _thumbs_up:
If you want to make further improvements after the addition of a quality intercooler, look at air intake. Mods like a plenum, Porting, oversized valves a tri-step valve grind and water methanol injection.
I have a plenum and valve grind on mine ( porting and oversize valve in the future, didnt do it because of time constraints) and am very happy with the throttle response and spool rate in the power band (2000-3200 rpm). BigRig and I have both driven each others rigs, and constructively discussed the pro's and cons of each other setups, He was quote "suitably impressed" with the throttle responce and power delivery of mine, considering it is an unmolested journal bearing turbo (tdo5h-16g)
Another mate has also done a comparisson with mine to a gq shorty with an alluminium head 355 stroker. He took me to a section of road in the sunshine coast hinterland where I had to take a dog-leg corner at 80km/h and floor it to see how fast I could get before the next bend. I made it to 125km/h and the shorty made it to 110km/h. That is a good indication of the responce of my ute in that small power band.

With you bigger turbo coupled with the mods I have mentioned there is no reason why you can easily make over 200rwhp and 1000 Nm at the wheels (tractive effort).

Mine makes 207rwhp and 1626Nm tractive effort on 31's with a smaller turbo, less boost, bigger injector pump.



All that and I still get about 11L/100km (13 with 35's) highway and 14-16L/100 offroading

Oh mate, my mrs uncle has a 74 RX4 coupe with factory plastic on the door trims and he took it off the seats coz his wife was complaining it annoyed her (silly mole) its factory 13b but has a 13bt in it . Thats a weapon mate stock motor running 15psi lifts the front wheels. If only my FAT GU was 800kg's lighter i would put a triple rotor or the infamous 26b quad rotor OMG i need to start playing tattslotto lol

That just means that you are not getting enough Fuel to make more boost mate. You need to get it tuned. Having the boost all the way open means you can take the boost controller out of the system as it is doing nothing now ;)

It will need fuel to make more boost and will likely be good for 25psi easily. Not really recommended for your use though Kris.

I went to drop off a "sample" today to the clinic in Heidelberg. The sample only lasts 1 hour and it took me 50 minutes to get from Xmas hills to the clinic I couldn't find a park so I parked at coles 1km away and ran all the way holding a cup of little ab's and just made it to the clinic....lol

I rocked up to the clinic sweating and exhausted, the lady must of had some strange thoughts going through her mind...lmao
