i rocked up to the clinic sweating and exhausted, the lady must of had some strange thoughts going through her mind...lmao

If you'd thought on a bit mate, you could have stopped and produced your little swimmers when you were half way to the clinic, that way your huffing and puffing would have well and truly finished by the time you got there, that way she wouldn't have had the chance to think any thoughts ;)

Or you could have carried them in a little esky on ice, to slow the buggahs down a bit lol

What's that photo mate?
Let's all talk about cars again! hahaha got a couple of newbie diesel questions.
I have seen at Caltex servos they have truck diesel and vortex diesel, vortex is dearer. What is the difference? At most servos they have high flow diesel for trucks, am I allowed to use that? Should I use it or is it no good?

hey mate

dont forget that a limited slip diff is exactly that...Limited. having a wheel in the air and having all that weight on 1 wheel it is unlikely to lock. have you changed the oils yet since you bought iit. if not give it a flush with cheap oil and/or an additive then put a 85-140w oil in. with the amount of km on it it should end up as good as it can get

left foot brake technique works surprisingly well with a patrol lsd

I suppose it is a fair ask hey... I will do that Ben thanks for the tip.
You might have to explain left foot brake technique?

taslucas
3rd March 2013, 07:27 PM
Yeah the LSD isn't gonna work with a wheel off the ground.
Left foot braking technique is where you slightly apply the brake while accelerating. The brake will stop the tyre that's in the air from spinning and therefore get the LSD to work

FanTapstic!

Winnie
3rd March 2013, 07:28 PM

I was wondering about that.....
On a knarly climb to try a bit of hand throttle and a little brake feathering if I get some slippage.
That does work? I know guys with autos that use that technique all the time....

yeah mate spot on I was just about to mention that. I personally like to set the hand throttle at 1000-1200 rpm or 1600-1800 if its frocking gnarly and still make sure I cover the throttle with the right foot just incase.
Once you have the technique down you'll be able to finely adjust how much brake depending on what part of the obsticle you're on and drive it smooth as silk, onlookers will think you are locked

Here is my dyno printout, figures don't mean much to me, what do you guys reckon (Benny??? Daz??? Matt???)
On the second page the top reading is before he touched it, second one is after the tune. Feels a bit lower on power, maybe I'm imagining it, I'm sure I wouldn't notice 2kW but feels like it doesn't pull as good on hills? I have hardly driven it with these tyres on though and they made a massive difference on my old one...

I still think its running too lean you should be making more power then that, unless the injector timing is out ??? The power curve doesn't look right to me but i might be used to how a petrol power curve is supposed to be ( nice smooth arc). Maybe you should go to another tuner and ask to do a power run and give you his opinion it shouldn't cost much, but you will have to travel to this side of town. Maybe hit up Dysons like Darren said and just drill them over the phone, they know their stuff and could probably help a bit more, you could try JPC aswell.

What style cooler are you going to run?? Water to air or air to air??

I think we might be on the same page about being lean. that turbo can supply a serious volume of air.
I like the power and torque/tractive effort curve. the power curve is broad for a diesel. I would love to have that

15th March 2013, 09:35 PM
Hey chris that dyno looks pretty average mate! For your turbo setup I would have thought you'd push at least 90kw.

I not that ambient temp was 39deg!! Maybe not ideal for getting the best results given that you have no inter cooler and it was bloody hot!!

Bring it down to Daltons mate. I have heard mixed things about JPC to be honest including a poorly calibrated dyno spitting out incorrect readings above accurate! And $400 for a tune!!!!WTF!!

Give Chris Dalton a call and have a chat with him mate,

Winnie
15th March 2013, 09:39 PM
Tune cost me an hour's labour which was $120. That was with my muddies on, with my road tyres on it makes a serious difference, reckon it would be over 100kW
For now I will leave it how it is if I have no more dramas. Then an intercooler and tune when I can afford one!

I reckon your temps are still too high mate. Cruising at 100 you should be looking at around 300. The other guys are also saying its not quite right.

Chris Dalton will be about the same dollars as you have paid but you will get a heap of runs. He ran my GUIV more than 40 times getting it perfect!!!

Are your muddies 33s or 35s? If that is with 33s then a little low IMO but running 35s on the dyno then it's probably not that bad (important info Chris ;) )

Keep a very close eye on your temps mate

MudRunnerTD
15th March 2013, 09:56 PM
Hmmmmm! Also thinking about it more! You have a GU 11mm pump!!! What is your Idle like? I reckon your tune is way under mate. Has the tuner done much with a TD42 before? Much with a GU pump?

I had both my cars tuned by a guy who had done lots of TD42 but it turned out he was doing ALLOT OF GUESSING and my power was down, idle was up and temps were a mess in general use!

Chris Dalton fixed both cars after I drove around like that for a year!! Damn I should have gone to him to start with!

So while im hijacking winnies thread, i may as well ask: what makes it "dose"? i thought it was just the blow off valve opening and closing real quick?

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P9iGnkB8vus heres a dose.

A dose = pressurized air from the turbo hitting the throttle flap, changing direction thru the cooler and back out the intake of the turbo while its still trying to boost. So the turbo is spinning at 50,000rpm - 100,000rpm stopping and going instantly, very healthy for it !!!
BTW no blow off valves for doseing just some 3" pipe in the front of the turbo about 7" long. I fitted the first dose pipe to a vl in woollongong lmao true fact!!

Hey Daz... muddies are 33s but they really take a lot of power out of it, think it might have more to do with the weight of the steel wheels than the 1" difference with my road tyres. Idle is fine. Dunno what this tuner has done before, he's the only local guy around, if I wanna go somewhere with a good history I have to go into Melbourne which means taking time off work which is a PITA. I will do that when I get a cooler though. And I always keep a very close eye on my temps, look at gauges just about as much as I look at the road hahaha

Chris go to this site (edit http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator ) and go to the tyre calculator and put your tyre sizes in and look at the difference

Don't know that... 32" compared to 33". It's more the weight of the steel wheels that sucks the power I reckon. My road tyres are alloys

Hey Winnie, this guy gets a great wrap on MudRhino for tuning over your side of town mate. Joel is his name give him a bell. He probably knows the previous owner and or knows your car mate.

Ask him what he would expect to get out of your set up and how much $$$

http://4bfabrications.com.au/contact-us

I think your probably putting way too much blame on your steel wheels mate, maybe a couple of KW but not the 20kw your missing!

Seriously that Turbo and that Pump should be seeing plenty more! Not meaning to rain on your day bud, just looking out for you mate ;)

Carrum Downs is still over an hour away. Look I'm happy with the power for now, it's enough for my needs. Haven't fueled up since so depending on economy I'll leave the tune until I get a cooler. Then I'll ramp the boost back up and chase a good tune! Haha

Winnie

Road tyres are 265/75R16 on nissan alloys and muddies are 33x10.5 on 15x8 steelies. There is a massive power difference between the two

Nah Chris was in front and got to the log and we looked like having to turn around. I walked up and suggested Chris give the log which looked rotten a nudge with his front wheel to break and crush the log.

The log rolled forward and the GQ climbed up on it and then over it and the bloody thing rolled back when his front dropped off it. It rolled back and copped his will and trailing arm.

His rear wheel pushed the log clear for the rest of us to drive around it.

He did good for a you g bloke. Go the rock sliders!

So I went to Dargo this weekend, more of a camping trip than a 4WD trip but we did Billy Goats which was a disappointment. I was expecting it to be a lot harder than it was. It was pissing down rain and the stock Pajero with us didn't have a problem getting up. The weather was crap though and we could not see out the sides because of fog so that ruined it....... I will definitely be back on a clear day!
We ended up in Licola last night.

You wont be happy with that. You will want more power. Aim for 180rwhp, for now. It is easily, safely achievable with your pump.

WRONG!! Lol hp is like Pringles, once you start you can stop. Look at my rx for instance it was only supposed to upgrade the cooler and boost controller, now its A LOT of money and 500+hp later....

So George came over on Sunday and helped me fit the new turbo. It's awesome! Spools up so much faster, EGTs are down by a lot (100 degrees on the freeway) and it's a lot quieter than the old one too. Great result, couldn't be happier........... well I could, with an intercooler!

taslucas
26th June 2013, 09:41 PM
vids like when you first got the TD. You know the one, go pro near the exhaust listening to that spool up.

But is it hektic enough for a Jetpilot sticker? lmao

Winnie
26th June 2013, 09:45 PM
It sounds basically the same as before. But it will never be THAT hektik!

It is the same..........................ok I'm just jealous..............no petrol GQ ( besides maybe a V8 ) would sound as nice as a TD.

Never really though about whacking a turbo in, PM me the details of turbo and I will have a think about it over the weekend, but will probable take it anyway if you only want a cuddle and slab of beer for it.................but considering I spend 20 bucks on sending those bolts 2 you I think you can forgo the cat p!ss and have 2 cuddles instead *LMAO*
