    TD42 Blowen Heagasket

    Hi everyone, has anyone had other issues with a blowen headgasket on TD42, mine appears to have stuffed the piston rings also, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, cheers Paul s

    Id say those two things might not be related. I can't see how a blown head gasket would stuff the piston rings. Unless the gasket allowed coolant into the cylinder when then this stuffed the rings....But im no mechanic.

    I thanks for your reply, motors been very hot it had 7 thou warp no cracks, I've had the head machined valves lapped, new head gasket new headbolts, rocker clearances set to 14 thou, very hard to start now runs very rough, lots of smoke, and seems to be pressurizing the oil, compression tested, and all cylinders well down best 150 psi, all others below 100 psi, don't see any other choice but to remove the head and remove the pistons? cheers paul

    Get an oil can with a long flexible hose and small nozzle. Do a compression test. Remove the test gauge and squirt a smidgen of engine oil into the cylinder.(Not more than a spoonful of oil as you don't want to hydrolock the engine) Turn over the engine a few times to spread the oil.
    Now do another compression check. If the reading significantly increases, then it indicates worn rings.
    My advice is: not to follow my advice.

    Theres your answer. low compression will tend to pressurise the sump

    Yeah I’ve seen a couple do that, usually when they’ve been pushed hard while already running hot. Did you get any signs before it went (smoke, loss of compression, coolant loss etc.)?

    Thanks all, I wasn't diving the wife was towing her horses, it overheated she decided to keep driving, I have re removed the head and pistons and all pistons damaged, bore's are fine, so I'm after a set of new N/A piston's and rings from AU do have any recommendations, cheers Paul
