Its used to dry the wood slowly so it does not crack as the it contracts with the moisture loss. You might be familiar with the term Kiln Dried Hardwood - used for furniture and internals that are essentially supplied for end use with the timber in a stable condition.
Mark, good kiln toaster for sure.. maybe good for drying slatted tomatoes too mate.
Pwr source - 11 solar panels? only for fan / blower operation? to move the hot air that just build up in container from heat of the day or other means of temp/humidity control?

She’s a pretty good design, happy with it John mate!
Installing the last of the solar hot water panels now.
240V fans blow through the hot water heat exchangers/radiators.
Nighttime LPG backup squirts for when things cool down.
Just need to hook the 240V fans up to our factory solar battery system and besides the LPG will run at near to no weekly costs

Looks a great unit Mark. Noted the panels will need protection from frost damage, good idea to run Ethylene glycol thru system maybe anyway. Great if you get good solar down that way mate to save on gas..

We noticed that frost panel warning too John but believe it should be ok as long as we run it 365days year round so the water should never get below our set say 55C charge.

Hey @mudski as you drive up to my place did you notice on the right the silver ‘sheds’ with steam coming out the top ? They’re all kilns mate - & ALL that timber stacked behind my place goes through them .

Yeah good, maybe the anti-corrosive properties may be of sys benefit(maybe not). Good ladies family ran kiln drying plant for Aust hardwoods, from the mid 30s until recently and use the mill sawdust waste to fire the steam boiler for the plant. Maybe some day could tee off for flow and return (hot water) and hook up small boiler that you fuel with left over timber.
