gq td42 turbo heats up when on hills or towing

Just my opinion, I think alot of over heating in the 4.2 is driving style , don't lug it , let it rev a bit, mine is stock standard GU tdi 4.2 , factory radiator factory tune 3in exhaust with muff and a snorkel ,with a 3t van on toowoomba range i find 2nd gear and about 2800 rpm doing about 40kph she will pull all day with no issues , let the revs drop below around 2300 , and temps will rise .

Ditto to this.
Mines exactly the same . If you let the motor below certain revs and have it labouring , she will start putting on the kettle clothes.
Drop down a cog and raise the rev needle and she is much happier.
