My turbo gq shorty
Hi
Back in mid 2016 i bought this beast
IMG_4068.jpg
94 one owner tb42 with 148000 on the clock. Never been used off road and mainly an elderly blokes run about. He had taken very good care of the car and it showed.
So i did a few quick day trips off road with it like this and decided the collapsed springs and tired shocks had to go. Also a set of 33 bfg ko2's were fitted around the same time.

I need to get my post count up so i can get the efi manual so bare with me as i go here,
I got the ironman winch bar off gumtree for 400 from memory, Springs and shocks are efs and purchased through patrol docta here in melbourne. I scour gumtree daily for bargains and honestly there are some rippa's on there. The winch is a dominator from 4x4 supercentre. Not the best unit but gets the job done for now and was cheap. At this stage i had no plans to turbo but after a number of trips down to gippsland on the freeway it was obvious the beast needed more power. I decided to go straight gas turbo as i had the lpg already in the car and i thought it would be a cheap exercise.

I got a welded up tb42 efi inlet off gumtree (there is a theme here) for $80 and started looking for a cheap turbo manifold. bought a second hand gas research carby and converter and the ball was rolling.
I took the head out at this stage and had it cleaned up and crack tested, plus heave duty valve springs and a slight lick with a die grinder (decomp). it came back looking mint

The other pic is how i dummied together the manifolds and got an idea of how it would all work
I cant stress enough how bad the ebay manifold hold up to 700 plus degree exhaust temps. If your looking at doing this dont cheap out with your exhaust manifold as i did you will have to do it all over again. i have done about 4000k on the turbo setup and had it out once already and straightened. and now its got a leak again and i have ought a radius fabrication to replace it. i also had to put a recoil into the very front exhaust stud as the manifold had pulled it out while warping.

For ignition i got an msd 6btm (gumtree) and went about making a box to keep it dry as it had to go under the hood.
Attachment 70798
Got the compressor cover welded up with a 2.5 to 3 inch 45 degree elbow

Then put it all together

Patrol God
dont stop now just getting interesting.
Oh and welcome to the forum lol
Dont think Ive ever come across a shorty that colour
wouldnt shaving the head raise your compression.
I would have thought low comp pistons would work better

Hi mate
Yeah its kind of rare i think but not sure, I didnt shave the head as such it was skimmed flat and having told the bloke i was turboing he took a small amount of material out of each compression chamber. Low comp pistons would be the best solution for sure but thats a big job
