I have that same air box lid and the rubber "cobra head" adaptor. Its 3inch in and out. Not sure what size that metal adaptor they show is. I dont have that part. Maybe 3-4inch? Anyhow, I'm not sure on how quick you want to do this but I will be in the future upgrading the airbox and snorkel on mine. So the lid will be up for grabs. Might save you some coin as those lids are a bit exy...

I wouldnt stuff about with the factory box. There are just to many downfalls with it. A 4" intake even to the ht18 will net you good gains in response. I would do the airbox/snorkel and the ic upgrade.

The ARE item can be used with the standard scoop but as with any cooler you will see gains with the better scoop. I have seen the ARE items in person. I have actually used ARE quite a bit. They are a quality item and are an aussie company that do great work.

Alright ... Just came back from a weekend away and it was the first real test of the 4.2 while in my hands.
The car went a bit shit in the power / EGT department... Few know the route from Melbourne to Mansfield via King lake, Yea, etc... Has a few slight hills, and some go for a few K's. When the car even sniffed those hills, it was a case of drop it back to 4th and eventually 3rd, because it just felt sluggish and if I kept it in higher gears, the EGT's went off the charts. Shoots straight to 400-500 range before I back off... I don't know what the coolant was doing exactly because the gauge was just frozen at 21C the whole weekend.

Now I know not to expect super power from the 4.2 and not to expect to climb those hills in 5th but still, this ain't right. Even doing 100 on a flat, it's sitting 300-350C or so, is this common ??

Really need to do something about it. I haven't had a tune yet? Because after I dropped the exhaust in it and then loaded her up with 33's the whole power characteristic of the car changed... And I remember Mark from JPC told me it would need to be re-touched to bring it back to the proper boost/fuel ratios due to the exhaust... Unsure whether that'll make any difference.

As per a few posts earlier, I wasn't going to touch the engine much apart from the IC and air intake like Matt suggested later on but this may have to come sooner than though.

Sounds about right for a stocker. I would also have a good think about a diff ratio swap especially if your are more than likely gonna stay with the 33" soze tyres. The 3.9 gears are just to low in my opinion.

A tune will help but I would wait until you do the other things you are contemplating before spending more money on a tune.

500c is ok as a max for prolonged periods say a few minutes. It might be hard but dont stress to much about it getting to 400 just try to keep 500 as your max. What sort of boost are you running currently?

Thanks Matt. I have not touched the boost at all. It is whatever it is out of factory. It maxes out at 10 no matter how hard I push it...

Hey Eric, there should be plenty left in it for you. I picked my wagon up in East ?? Melbourne (Lilydale) and drove it home through the hills to Mansfield then onto Sydney. I went up them in 5th no probs at 100 or so. When I got mine it was running the standard air intake and snorkel, 12psi, 3" exhaust and a tune. I didn't have an EGT gauge in it at the time so I guess ignorance is bliss. As Matt says, don't stress about seeing 400, or even 500 if for short periods. I start to watch mine when it gets to about 500 (vertical on the VDO) until then I don't worry about it.
    Cheers Rod
