    Thanks Rod, I did find that image online. They use the standard red & yellow wires in their diagram but the original thermocouple is too short and the VDO extension uses brown & red.

    I was hoping to see how the ends of the extension cable are terminated.
    I think I'll just use standard lugs and test it on the bench first.

    I think I still have all the literature from my gauges that might have that info john.

    Did you use the long red twin core extension that VDO supply?
    What I'd like to know is if I can just crimp on a couple of standard flat connectors or if they have to be a particular metal.
    I also have no idea how much, if anything, was cut from the original cable.
    Info I've been able to find suggests the VDO gauges can't simply use any K type thermocouple like most EGT gauges can.

    Going to attempt my first oil and filter change this weekend. Never done it do there !might be a stuffed td42 after this weekend for sale. Wish me luck ???

    I work around the corner from the Caltex depot here in Warragul, I buy it in 20L drums for under $100

    Not as good as others in my experince.

    Basically any ci-4 or ci-4+ spec oil will be fine.
