    Brake rotor removal

    Hi there,

    Anybody got any good techniques for separating the rotors from the hubs on a GQ? I've taken the hubs off and removed the bolts that hold the rotor on but can't get it to budge. I've sprayed WD40 all around the join, tried hitting it with a hammer and even put them on the ground and stood on the rotors but they're jammed solid.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Is there a threaded hole you can screw a bolt in to
    04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

    There are the threaded holes for the disc rotor bolts. Or on the hub there are the threads that the locking hub screws in to.

    There should be toward the centre two, maybe three threaded holes. You put bolts into them and even screw them down which in turn, pushes on the hub to separate the two. Maybe take a pic of the front and back of the rotors on the hub. Just in case you have missed something...
    On the fronts, GU anyway, it comes apart from the back side of the hub, (i think, lol bad memory these days), I sprayed the crap out of the area with WD40 and then INOX and used a pry bar in between the disc and hub and gently pried it open as I was moving the assembly around so it would come off evenly. If you get my drift.

    I see what you mean. I've done that to get the rear drums off before, but I can't see any holes that'll let me do that here. Got to go to work now so I'll give it another try tonight. Thanks guys.

    Yeah I'm thinking of the rears... as for the fronts, soak the crap out of the area, and get something to lever in between the hub and rotor from the back side.

    When I rebuilt the front end of my patrol, I was replacing calipers and rotors. I left the hub on the car, undid the bolts, then a few smacks around the circumferance with a lump hammer to free the rotor. Then took the hub off and the rotor was free. Of course, if your wanting to reuse the rotor I wouldn't recommend it, but I was replacing them anyway so not worried about damaging them.

    Hi mate have a look at this thread. There is an exploded diagram of the front end in the first post and also at the end of the first post I remove the disk.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for all the suggestions. I ran out of time in the end and had to take them to a shop and get them to do it for me. I also thought of bolting the hub back into the wheel and then hitting it through the holes in the wheel with a hammer and drift. Didn't have chance to try it out though as I didn't have a suitable hammer or drift. I should have specified it was the front hubs I was working on. Some bolt holes would have been very handy, but unfortunately I haven't got them on the front.
