Rule of thumb is what ever you spend on a rifle is what you spend on a scope.
But if you are after a good cheaper entry level scope look at redfield leuopold or Burris ranges

True, I took a punt on a Redfield revolution scope(the US made one) for my Enfield and it is fantastic. Liked it so much that I'm getting one for my Mauser. You can get em for $300 or a touch less if you shop around. Excellent scope for the money.
