    Removing door outer weather strips

    Hi all

Wondering if anyone knows how to remove the door outer weather strips, the ones that sit on the external side of the door. I'll post a pic in a second to show what I mean just in case.

    Cheers

    Andy

yeah you need to remove the inner door card, remove the inner weather strip the you can see the clips through the window glass. wind down the window and you should be able to see what you are doing and get access to them

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

In the process of painting the rest of the troll. Would prefer as little masking as possible but if it's a pain I'll just have to do my best with masking it off.

Mask that one off mate, you will get the outer off easy but you will have to take the main glass out to take the separator out to then remove the small glass. mask up i reckon. Your paint looks great in that pic! wish mine was that nice!

Paint is in ok condition, there's just a lot of scratches and crazing in other sections. But it's condition means I don't have to go down to bare metal.

    Andy,

I havent seen the panel beaters do this with the weather strips, as they normally remove them, but you could try some small diameter rope and lift to insert the rope so that it sits under and behind the edge of the strip so it lifts it away from the paint line, then mask up the rubber as normal.

If you do this, make sure it is really clean underneath, as you dont want to blow dirt through your paint.

Managed to remove the strips fairly easily. Just involved removing the door card and using a a flat head screw driver on the aft two weather strip clips. Once these were free I could basically work the rest of the clips loose and lift it off. Easy!

    Thanks all for your contributions!

Mate you know whats better than that? Bread and butter knifes , the old school ones. I use them for pulling interiors apart, lcd screens . Another trick for removing winding window hands is to fold your shirt in half slide it under the handle and pull it side to side.
