You can catch a ferry across to horn and Thursday islands. There is also an airport at Bamaga.
A few others might know of other airports

Will have a look and see if I can find a good pic

Where does the ferry leave from? The tip itself or somewhere else? No way known will I miss out on getting across to the islands when I eventually get up there. Is the ferry for foot passengers only or does it take vehicles?

Seems the road to the tip is not really a challenge any more. A friend & his wife are up there at the moment, got up to the tip without difficulty in their 2wd, low clearance 7 metre, wide bodied Isuzu bus based motor home. Not sure if they were towing their Suzuki 4wd as usual. I asked how they went with river crossings, & they said there were just two, both with a ferry.

    G`day Cuppa
You can get to the top by 2wd by using the development road
4wd is only needed if you do the Telegraph track.
the ferry from Seisia is for foot traffic but you may be able to ship a vehicle from Cairns.
Check out Vanessa`s web site at www.intheirsteps.com
A trip to the tip is not complete without a trip to the islands
