When I was shopping for my patrol I couldn't afford newer diesel and i didn't want to buy 01-04 3.0 diesel so i bought 4.5 litre patrol GU.
It's got 350 000 on the clock and it's runs like a dream.
I did 30 000 with it, it's also running LPG.
how many km can 4.5 litre engine do? I was told that they can do easy 500 000?

I defence of the zd30
I have no idea of any real statistics, but I spend a fair bit of time on the road and always note the patrols.
I would say that 8 out 10 patrols I see are the 3.0 litre diesels. Very few petrols and 4.2's
No car gets that kind of popularity if they are not a bloody good car.
There is always a percentage of breakdowns and faults with any car. The reason why we hear about a larger number of faults on the xd30 compared with say the 4.2's is simply because there are 4 or 5 times more of them on the road. (my theory only)
If it size that's important, Just remember, the 4 cyl 3.0 litre has got bigger pistons than the 6 cyl 4.2
However, that's not to say I wouldn't have had a 4.2 litre if I could have afforded it.
I've just bought an 02 ZD30 and while I cannot yet attest to it's longevity, with a thorough clean of EGR buildup and installation of NADS, I'm hoping it's going to prove reliable.
Time will tell but there's no way I could afford a 4.2
