The White Elephant - 95 GQ

some updates. sold the 5spd (black/silver GQ below) and imported a nice white LWB GQ TD42T from Japan.

    Called it the 'White Elephant'.

So far so good. moved over the aux tank/wvo system into the new rig.

Mechanically it is rock solid. Frame is solid along with body panels and interior in in great shape. Some rust issues in the rear I will have blasted and fully repaired this summer.

    Here's the goods:

1995 Nissan Safari Y60 (Patrol GQ)
Kingsroad edition (top of the line trim/accessories)
    TD42T 4.2L Turbo diesel
    Auto transmission
    Rear differential locker
    Moon roof
12V electrical system with 24V starter / dual batteries

    Options ordered from factory:
White exterior color (usually reserved for UN/work grade trucks)
Camping kit (rear outfitted with bed/stove/storage)

Mods/upgrade to be done right away:

    Auxiliary transmission cooler (soon)
    Transmission shift kit (soon)
    WVO/veg aux tank/fuel kit (done)
    Pyro/Boost/Trans temp gauges (soon)
    285/75/16 Goodyear Duratrac's on 16x8 wheels (done)
Remove all chrome body/accessory parts & replace/repaint black (almost)

Mods/upgrades to be done in the near future:

    OME 2" suspension lift (done)
    DIY 1" body lift (soon)
    Fabricating front/rear tube bars (soon)
    8274 front mount winch (soon)
    side tube sliders (soon)
    Top mount intercooler (soon)
Interior cabinets/bed/bench platform for camping (done)
roof rack with center open section = removable skylight/box to have interior standing room for cooking/etc..

I've done mods and will post them as I've added them.

    Cheers
    Jesse

How I got it from Japan:

Last ride was a 91 GQ TD42 5spd with 3" dobinson coils. I made the dropboxes, bumper and roof rack. Also have a camping kit I built and running an aux tank with WVO veggie oil.

    Cheers
    Jesse

Welcome to the forum mate, feel free to ask any questions and join in the conversations.

How have you mounted the fly wire system? Does it run around the side of the drawers as well?

Is that done so you can sleep inside and stop flies and mozzies getting in, etc???

I was thinking of doing this in my GQ to keep the barn doors open on hot nights...

I bought the screen material from a standard hardware shop. It's for screen sliding doors on a house. Cheap. I just cut it to fit the GQ rear doors and barn door area. I attached it by pulling back the door trim, stuffing a bit inside and putting the trim back on.
