Yeah 3rd can be a problem with warmed up higher torque TD's. Some guys like the 4.8 manual as 3rd is a little shorter than the TD specific box.

I have seen plenty let go MB. My comment was in the way in which Winnie's has failed. Normally they break relatively cleanly. Winnies one has like twisted and splintered.

If you know the thread pitch of you tie rod ends then this is quite easy. For example if the tie rod ends have a 1mm pitch then 1/2 a turn would equal approximately 1mm off your measurement....

You still have castor. So the position of the tyres sitting at ride height will be different when the suspension is drooped. If castor didn't exist then you would be fine.
