From Farm scrap yard to barra powered dual cab GQ

Hey guys, recently stumbled upon this glorious (or not so glorious) sight out on a mates farm:

It is, or was, a 1996 TB42e auto ST that was in excellent condition before it slide down the dam bank and was laid on it's side.
It has a 3" lift (though someone has nicked the rear shocks - it'll be getting new ones anyway), and adjustable panhards from a rear which is a little bonus :D

After a few choice words, and a lot of work we managed to get it ready for the tow truck to pick it up.

After we got it home, I gave it a pretty decent wash, and set to work removing the barra from the falcon.
It's just your standard BA barra with 160,000kms. Best bit is it owes me exactly $0 for the whole BA :thumbup:

Whilst I toil away in the shed building the Barra loom and sorting out the Patrol loom from left over horrible DIY wiring and stuff I actually need I've decided to get a head start on the dual cab chop.

And that is where it currently stands. Picked it up last weekend, and pulled the Barra out, and yesterday I chopped the back off it and today I'll tackle removing the interior and the many spiders that have taken up residence inside it!

Total cost so far:
BA Falcon $0
GQ Patrol $200
PCM unlock and security removal $150

Thats awesome mate. Great project. Definately starting behind the line bit your committed.

Please keep the build going. Going to be epic.

Highly recomend welding some rear chassis bracing over the chassis rails to protect it from cracking with rear load after the chop mate.

Yeah I'm going to be using the PSR dual cab chop tray mounts and they come with fishplates for the chassis. I'll also be using their weld in coil tower braces front and rear [emoji106]

I would like to thank you for your post above. I have been looking at strengthening my chassis and about to launch into creating my own templates - never even knew of these guys, so thats one problem fixed for me - yeah baby, more weight!!!

I think I have been dodging a bullet with all the crap I carry around, so best to strengthen the frame as I am not slowing down on the weight gain!

No problems. A mate got me onto them (actually the guy in the first pic :thumbup: ). He bought some upgraded parts for his Navara off them and they are unreal

Ohh and if anyone local to Bendigo is interested there is a GQ single cab ute still out on the farm where my GQ was, you can kind of see its rear end in one of the pictures. The front of the chassis has been gas-axed off but the cab looked very rust free and it has the big 260 diff in it, as well as both fuel tanks still.

Managed to pick up a set of wheels and tyres for this thing locally last night, even if I don't end up using the tyres they will do the job for now.
Best part is they were only $400 :Yahoo!:

I had an awful lot of trouble getting the Migomag to do what I wanted it to, so used to using the million year old Cigweld at work which performs flawlessly.
Finally got it to produce some half decent welds so off I went welding up the framework:

Had a meeting with the engineer at lunchtime as well, he is very happy with my plans and has given the all clear to complete both the dual cab chop as well as the barra conversion, so that's a big win right there! :Yahoo!:
Super pumped to get stuck into it and rip the TB42e out over the weekend.

I've also gone ahead and purchased some paint to paint the chassis/diffs/etc with once I lift the body off the chassis to replace the cab mounts.

Now all I have to do is figure out which wire does what at both ends of the vehicle, as unfortunately someone has chopped the plugs off it whilst it was sitting at the farm :frown::animierte-smil

Local bloke in town did it for me, his name is Corey Bice. He's helped on a few Barra Patrols now, but mostly converts Barra's into Speedway cars I think.

Been flat out at work lately, so haven't had a chance to get out and work on it unfortunately. And when I do get a chance it's been pissing rain, hopefully get a chance to get out there this weekend and do a bit more to it :smiley_thumbs_up:
