hey all i own a 1998 gu patrol with the 2.8 turbo diesel. i have the problem of the cooling system pressurising way to much and spitting all the coolant out of the over flow and eventually getting to low that it starts to get hot:1087:. just wondering if any of you guys have had this problem and if so what was the cause?

I had a 2.8 turbo in a gq wagon and had similar pressurisation. worked out that the head gasket had blown.
might be worth while getting it checked out.
had to get head machined and hardness tested and put back together.
look for bubles in the radiator with the cap off if it blows bubbles get it checkedQuote:

There are generally two problems that cause this issue.
- if you have a cracked head or blown head gasket, then you will see bubles comming out of your overflow bottle. also smell it, does it smell like exhaust?
- if you have a blown oil cooler (lower drivers side of the engine), then you will have oil in your water

just an idea but have u checkd the radiator cap ? it could b that simple
as above, try a new radiator cap, try the simple stuff first no point just jumping in and pulling the head without good reason to.
Also a pressure test of the cooling system should show up a head gasket/ head issue
generally when they go, they are very obvious to diagnose. When mine cracked, it blew all of the coolant out of the engine immediately. luckyly i had a couple of 20l drums of water in the back of the car and was able to limp it slowly back to civilisation leaving the cap off the overflow bottle so it would slowly gurgle in there and not loose too much water.
you can smell the exhaust fumes in the overflow bottle when this happens.
it sorta smells like rotten eggs when a head goes its something you would really notic if its bad.
to test the radiator cap if its anything like a thermostat u can wedge a old coat hanger in to open it bring it to not sure on the tep when it should let go but it shuld give u an idea
