As the title says I'm just wondering what speed I should be going at 3000rpm in 5th gear low range??

Not very fast.
Doesnt nissan recommend a speed you shouldn't exceed in low range. Something like 50 or 70 kmh
Cant say Ive ever been in low 5th, so no idea
guessing maybe 40 kph maybe more
Wait... what...? 5th on low range...?
Is that 5th on low range or 5th on 4WD high range?
I doubt that you will be ever in a situation where you are looking for anything more than 2nd gear in a low range - and again I may be wrong to assume so.
Cheers,
As others have said, have never been in 5th low and would not try.
Wow!! I have been in 5th Low Heaps of times!! I reckon your good for 50 or a little faster Kallen.
Low Range in Sand can be far less stressful on the gearbox in all gears so to get to 5th in Low is not unreasonable or surprising when your running down the beach. Your likely not to be there for an extended period as stopping and grabbing HiRange is reasonable but some of the beaches in SA are long enough to find 5th but short enough to not bother with HiRange. IMO.
Your Gear box has 5 gears for a Reason ;) and splits All 5 ;)
about 30 for me Im guessing. the tcase starts screaming just above 20km so I dont go any faster
Seeing as you basically double your horse power from selecting low range
and 5th being a very weak link in a gearbox, I would recommend High range.
but you are asking out of curiousity I gather, as for those reduction gears
are there any 63% ones still left seemed to be the perfect reduction lol
Well sometimes on the beach you do what you gotta do..
It was bloody soft atm and once you have momentum you don't stop..
Stopping to go into high range and then trying to start again would more than likely resulted in bogged patrol. .
Anyway..
I was on 60 k neat..
For some reason I though my gq got 80 in low 5th..
But clearly dreaming lol. .
No haven't fitted the 24% box yet darren..
I used 2nd,3rd,4th LR a lot sand driving the ol Q
Edit: I was flogging it like a borrowed horse though :)
Gold... absolute Gold, B.E.B.
Best post today so far
Maybe the beaches are different down SA way to up at QLD. When I was on Moreton I don't think I even used low range. I suppose for the dunes it would be a lot different though! Just high 1st or 2nd mainly for the hills and boggy sand and just plenty of the right foot... Out on the open beach runs just cruised in high 4th, in 2wd sometimes made for awesome rooster tails. Lol.
Mudski we are not talking beach sand here which is compacted by water. Super soft power sucking sand!
The sand down Southend, Beachport, etc is FLUFFY and will catch the unwary very quickly

I've written a calculator for speeds in excel. The FS5R50A trans bolted to a TX12a with the stock 2.020:1 low range reduction on 31" tires will do 64 km/h @ 3000 rpm.
You're also very right about driving at speed in low - its often a necessity. I'm often on long sandy beaches and stopping to go into high is just not possible once Im moving. And on the beach I rarely go over 50km/h any way so low range is well suited. Also due to the high reduction, you've not got as much load on the motor which I find keeps the temps down, and keeps the amount of power still available up
48.64km/h.
