Lost power after mods

I've got a 2000 ZD30 with the whole nads thing set up on it.

My exhaust was pretty screwed and I was having a little trouble with limp mode so I put a Berklee 3" exhaust on it along with the HPD MAF housing and airbox lid.

After putting those on, I've actually lost a bit of torque. It's very sloppy on take off and it'll only give me some power after 2300RPM. And with any kind of incline, I'm only just managing to hold speed.

If I floor it, I'm not getting any smoke out the exhaust. That to me seems strange, I had the usual bit of black smoke under load with the old exhaust. I may be wrong, but it seems like it's running lean.

Is there anything I can do myself to adjust the amount of fuel getting pumped in, or is this something I need to take to a specialist?

That seems strange. Normally when you put a low restriction exhaust on a ZD30 it allows the turbo to spool quicker and has more torque down low. Is your needle valve adjusted correctly? What is your maximum boost?

What max boost are you acheiving ??

I've got the max boost set to about 20PSI at the moment. With a pretty aggressive spool up rate.

I've experimented a few things with lower max and different spool up rates but nothing has made any improvement.

Maybe take the needle valve out and test to see if it's any better. Then you know its not the NADS as the Dawes should not affect it until it gets to max boost.

I'll give that a go tonight.

The hpd maf housing and air box lid have probably dropped your maf voltage, giving you less fuel.
You can put the old housing and air box lid on and check the maf voltage at different revs, and compare with the voltage you get now.

Yeh I've found out the housing is bad without being chipped. I'll probably put the old one back in until I can finish the job properly...

I've replied already on another forum, so for benefit of members in here; HPD MAF housing lowers voltage about 0.25V give or take. Without increasing the fuelling via diesel chip the net effects are power loss at low to mid range, no limps though as it barely comes anywhere near the limp values hence 20 psi max boost and no limps.

HPD actually notes in regards to this housing that it is not suitable for unchiped vehicle.

I run one without the chip but I manipulate MAF voltages via JDVM unit and it is a pain to set up right with the HPD housing, very intermittent and inconsistent due to ambient temps and easily limps on aggressive settings in colder weather especially....

I've regretted the purchase a long time ago...the airbox lid and cobra intake hose are good mods but the housing requires a chip and tuning on dyno to get the best out of it.

Soooo why not put a chip in? Ill have a DP chip up for sale soon. ;)

My "professional" disease will not let me stomach a diesel chip especially DP variety. I'll take full ECU custom tune/map however, like Land Rover Defender remap though. Sadly Bosch and Nissan wonkers have made sure that is not possible....

I did the same and avoided the chips until remapping became available for the CRD's.

Nope it can't be remaped! Bosch made it that way, non erasable flash ROM.
