Any one on here fitted "Hydro Brakes" ? I've been looking into these and in touch with a guy in the States who's going to make mine . However he's told me he's just sent some out before Crimbo to some of you guys in Aus. I figured you must know who it is fitting them down your way :D
I'd love to hear some first hand knowledge etc

I have thought about it for a while. What price can you get them for from the States? Do they have all the fittings to bolt straight in to a Patrol?
UK rates may be better than here - the main problem from the States from most businesses is freight cost.
They're 260 UK pounds for the booster plus a bit of post. He does a kit that allows direct plug and play fitting to bulkheadand also joining kit for the power steering pump hoses etc. Waiting for the prices of that bit. ;) About half that Aus price ;) ker ching
Just checked that link and to be fair that one is a complete kit. trouble is for me the courier costs and customs cost a bomba :( From the states the carriage is cheap and half the time no customs too.
There is another mob selling bigger brake boosters for the GQ/GU for about $900.
was in 4x4 aust mag just recently.
IMO you might be better off fitting braided hoses first
For sure, braided hoses going on and a bit longer too. Just for extra axle travel, eventually.
Braided hoses are a must as you are usually doubling your line pressure with a hydraulic booster. If you are going to spend that sort of money you would be crazy not to upgrade the rotors and pads. Unfortunately I have not come across any four piston callipers that easily fit a Patrol (without modification/adaptor plates that would have to be engineered etc).
It's an expensive exercise - but you would have a Patrol with really good brakes.
Ah luckily here in Blighty we can do more mods without the nanny state interfering ;) I've got GU axles and "Rotors" etc So the brakes are already bigger . Running 35" muds so good brakes are kinda handy eh
PID diesel are the ones here in oz that started making that kit and marks copied it from all the whinging and moaning on another forum.
Dont the calipers of a Ti have 4 pistons plus the rotors are a tad bigger as wellQuote:

I'd be interested to know where you got this information from. The Y62 has 4 piston callipers on the front - but even if you could get hold of a set (and afford them) - I doubt they would bolt straight on.Quote:

Thats why they have issues with some 16 inch rims not fitting as they don't have enough clearance to the caliper.
Learned something new today... didn't even know this sort of mod existed.
Found lots of references that state the 4.8 callipers are "different" - but I can't find anything that tells me how many pistons they hold. I have been trying to improve my brakes for some time and 4 piston callipers would help lots - but I only want them if they bolt straight on. I don't want any adaptors or any other potential problems.Quote:

They are only 2 piston calipers. The brake pads are different but can be fitted to any other gu caliper. The rotors are different, so mountings are a little different and sourcing diff housings/assemblies would be easier than modifying your current. The GU 4.8 calipers are not a straight bolt in fit on a GQ. In fact AFAIK none of the GU calipers are.
The only straight bolt on caliper upgrade i know of is fitting the twin pot qg EFI calipers.
Even just rebuilding your existing calipers and braided lines may give you a boost in brake performance as everything works 100% again. Personally i would makemsure the existing brakes are 100% with maybe new rotors and pads, then look at the hydro boost..just a thought

I'm upgrading all round really. Yes it's a GQ but I've got GU axles/diffs and brakes. Next stage is the hydro booster bit. I've replaced all the fixed brake pipes .I'll be fitting extended braided hoses everywhere else ;)
I was just hoping to have found someone who'd fitted the same is all ;)

I think you are right. The small amount of difference would not be worth the trouble. I already have upgraded rotors and pads plus braided lines and I'm running dot 4 fluid. Funny you should mention it but I have ordered a new LPV and am replacing it tomorrow. Mine is shot and instead of the chassis to diff distance moving the lever to adjust the valve - when I apply the brakes the lever moves heaps and makes a groaning sound. The opposite of what is supposed to happen. I will pull it to bits to have a look when I replace it - but either the return spring is broken or the piston is siezed.Quote:

The step up from my GQ brake and braided lines to the GU Brakes with the same braided lines is Insane! BIG Step up. I'd do the diff swap for that alone.
Funny, I would have expected the pedal to be lighter. The info I got from Mark's says you need less pedal pressure. Mine had ABS so lock up is not a problem.Quote:
