My oil light is staying on for 6-10 seconds when i start it up in the morning or at the end of the day after its sat not running for a bit. Oil level is spot on. Is my oil pump starting to crap out or should i try different oil? I just use the recommended castrol oil. Its only started recently and doesnt come on when driving.
6-10 seconds is a little too long...What filters are using spud? Need to make sure they have anti drain backs....

I just started it up then and its not been started for a few days and the light stayed on for 5 seconds
Hey growler - when did you last change filters? If they are OK and oil levels are OK I think you are on the money with a pump showing its age. I'd switch it out if filters are OK. That's the right filter for the GQ so I'd be looking at the pump - and if it was me - would go easy on driving it until you can swap it out. Seen pumps go bing in a flash and then the engine follow pretty quick after!

It is on for about 4 seconds I think...
It's probably annoyed with you for taking a mighty GU for a spin, maybe time to trade up.

99% chance it is the sender. They are very prone to getting grunged up and being slow to see the true pressure however if genuine then low oil pressure is something to be addressed quickly
Given the cost/complexity of of rrsing about with the pump etc I would def recommend you try a "known" good sender first tho.

Pretty standard for a td42 and oil light to go out in about 5 secs. Oil pump isn't hard to do its only a gear pump. Different filters will take different time as well most these days have an anti drain back in them but they will still lose some oil being mounted horizontally.

just had a similar nightmare with the wife's patrol - bottom line we did a mechanical old fashioned gauge check where the sensor screws into the block - Nissan dealer supplied a sensor with too high a 'sender' pressure twice - a new oil pump was quoted at approx £1000 - did a'mechanical' comparison check with our other patrol through the rev range re. the manual and low and behold the oil pressure on this suspect engine is better than the everyday workhorse - have just done 1500miles with the suspect engine fitted with a non standard sensor at a cost of £9.50 instead of the Nissan dealer quote of £125 for the same thing - happy days
you can use the standard GM 0-90 Ohm sender - far more reliable (1965-1995 IIRC, single pin type) You can also use the later models found in Silverados (1995+) that are 3 pins, but its a bit of mucking about trying to get and rewire a male plug to adaptQuote:

VDO have switchable Ohms pressure senders, just make sure it can be switched 0-90Ohm and not the 0-180 Ohm or 0-240 Ohm types)
