It was a lot easier than I expected. I drilled two holes in the front of it, blew out the old oil (which was like thick dark honey), and put 40ml of 30,000 grade silicone oil into it with a syringe.
The oil came from a hobby store, and cost me $4.50 for 80ml. It's used in the diffs of radio controlled cars and comes in different grades. 30k was recommended by someone who'd compared the specs of the fan clutch oil you can buy from Toyota.
Different engines use different clutches though. If you have a TD42 there's a good chance you can just unbolt it rather than drilling holes in it.
went arrgh trying to lift this box ... Attachment 42192
Now what am I suppose to do.. guess I need a bigger floor jack to start with. Attachment 42193
Well I lightened the wallet by just over 2 and a 1/5 grand on the troll today. Started with wanting an exchange intercooler and things escalated quickly lol
Bit of a small mouse plague around my area. Found some signs that they have been nesting beside the battery, so I have mounted a mouse trap on a bit of wood so it will sit nicely under the bonnet.
Not so much the patrol, but a roof rack..
Bought this awning a while back for $250ish and this rack came attached..
But was a gu rack and 2.5m long..
So have cut it down to 1.8m and some flash new mounts to suit the gq..
So it's now done and painted. Just need to make the clamps, mount the awning and throw it on..

Routed the scangauge cable through the dash to fit it nicely, and ran some cable for the locker switch and moved the antenna mast switch.
The Mrs vacuumed and shampooed the carpet , leather conditioned the seats , while I looked at what 25 years of camping on the beaches , has done to the jayco running gear , while I'm removing the rust I'll give it a 50mm lift and a tire and wheel upgrade , Attachment 42263Attachment 42264Attachment 42265
Yep just have to see how to mount the calipers , as its the inderpentant rubber suspension with shocks , and I don't want to damage the rubber in the axel welding on the brackets
I helped my neighbours move out. lol
I'll miss them, but not their crowing rooster.
It's amazing how much stuff will fit into the back of the pod.
Fixed our odo and trip meter.
I expected to find a stripped gear or one that was loose on the shaft. Gears all looked good so I put the motor from our spare one into it and it all works again now :)
EDIT: Also took another 5ml of oil out of our fan clutch (originally put 40ml in, but have taken 10 out again now) and it isn't constantly locked up now, but it was too wet to test if it locks up when the temp gets high.
Brought myself a new carbie for the old girl will see if it sorts out the rough idling and massive fuel consumption that I'm rolling with. Should get it early next week
Serviced the U and attempted to fit the new "Hard Arse". No joy though...

Found out that I've used my car that much my key is warn out...
It won't turn the barrel anymore..
I found this out after work..
50k away.. Doh..
New key, all good...
You might need to rekey your locks soon mate as they wear out too and end up like an old kings wood. Starting it with a knife
Got her wet and bogged. Used the winch with great results!
Next door's dog christened my truck. lol. Just kidding.
Open up the holes a bit to suit a 14mm bolt on the recovery points. So coat of Rustguard to exposed metal was the go.

Tested the fan clutch and decided I've finally got the right amount of oil in it now.
30ml of 30k silicone oil makes the fan start to drive harder as soon as the temp gets over half way on the factory gauge. I tried 40ml first, then 35ml, and it stayed locked up all the time.
Tested my dropping resistor upgrade and found that a 2200 ohm resistor isn't at all harsh on the changes when the engine's hot, so I'll see how it goes when it's cold.
Fitted another Anderson plug and went for a drive around the neihbourhood to get rid of underbody Mud.. Got to love S/E QLD flooding..
Replaced the factory cassette player with a new head unit and speakers.
Hey John. Don't the larger plates that fit to the side of the chassis rail fit the later Trolls? There's no way in hell I would trust two bolts being yanked from a bracket at 90deg... ( Not dissing your plates John btw. It's how the plates are only held by two bolts, at a bad angle too is my concern)
fitted new wheels and tyres, bull bar and started to get rid of the gas system :)
pretty bad pics but here is a couple its also now missing the roof racks and has a alloy bar instead of the abomination that was on the front in that pic

Replaced all the coolant hoses on the patrol as well as fresh coolant. Have removed the outside door trims that sit on the bottom in preparation of painting the truck. Looks messy atm but will be worth it in the end.
Today was sad panda!
Had to remove my drawer system, fitted cargo barrier ready for the 2 kids!!!
Then going to put some ply down on the floor, run fridge slide, box around it to have oven on top and just use storage containers...:(
No more sleeping in the back for you boyo!!!!!!!!
Was this kid really such a good idea? Lol
Outback Ideas recovery points, finally fitted!
