Bluey sounds mean fellas.. going to be interesting to see the improvement in driving when he's tuned up and not leaking diesel.
Well done AB, greatly deserved mate.
ill have to organise to come down have a look AB, sounds tough in the Vid mate
Hey Tony,
I fitted one of those to my GQ and to my disappointment it failed the test on the Dyno, could not get the Boost level set right with it, i think the cheap spring failed to have adequate spring rate in it. I ended up splashing out for a decent one during the dyno run tho sort it out. All good now but i went a good brand Turbo Smart Boost Controller.
my 2c
Not exactly the same as this but close

the spring in that other one was like they had made their own spring without tension in it, when we wound it in that was that. did not rebound so useless. I kinda put it down to "you get what you pay for" the boost controller serves a fairly important function so i bit the bullet.
Cheers, hope that helps.
I feel violated and hurt that you too have turned my beautiful members ride thread into a chat room...LMAO.
Even though MR started this thread is not the point....lol
It's all about me here fellas....ME!!!
Jokes!!!
lol Hey its My thread AB, I'm the Author listed.
Just show'n ya the love AB.
What Tony said ^^
Just thought I would put this on the forum for anyone else installing a turbo...
Two photos below...
One is of the original oil feed braided hose that I ran a little too close to the manifold. I think the hose could last for about 220 degrees celcius but being only 10mm away from the manifold and actually touching the flange where it meets the dump pipe is way too close.
Second photo shows the braided hose now running up higher, away from the heat. Looks extremely ugly but I prefer reliability over prettiness...lol
I don't think It's a problem that the oil feed has to travel up hill for a bit before it reaches the turbo as It will be pressure fed.
Getting ye ol Bluey tuned up with the turbo and replace the O ring on the injector pump this Monday so very excited to see how it performs after that!
I just went down to the shops to get pizza for the family and found myself revving the engine and tapping the accelerator inbetween gears like a w@nker....I can't help but love this new turbo and exhaust..LMAO
Look out folks there is a new tool on the street that thinks he's cool...lol
Good to hear is all running right mate, i imagine you will have a smile from ear to ear everytime you get into it now hahahaha
Loving it Fletch!
Big clean up day today with Bluey. When I took the rear draws out a month ago and put them in the shed I just opened it up last night to find mice have been in and eaten every single 2 minute noodle pack.
They even ate sugar and jams, toilet paper and poo'd all through the draws...lol...Bloody mice!!!!
haaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa you need a cat mate
Just picked up Bluey from the turbo specialist this afternoon.
Fixed the injector pump leak and tuned up the new turbo. Thank god the injector pump leak was the top O'ring as suspected!!!
Well, bluey runs like a dream, just like a brand new car now. I managed to drive up from the valley to my house in 4th gear the whole way which was amazing!
This hill is pretty damn steep for a solid 2km's so I was very impressed as I normally have to kick it back 3rd and even 2nd pre turbo.
Can't wait to take it bush now...BRING IT ON!!!
No more mods for a bit, I'm severly broke....lol
The turbo specialist said I did a great job on the turbo install which I was pretty impressed by that comment...haha. Actually he only pointed out one issue which was my oil feed line was zip tied to my A/C line and he said the stainless steel on the line will eat that A/C line out and showed me where to brace it so It's 100% good to go now!
thank god that was a cheaper option mate
we now need piccies or video would be better of Bluey climbing up something steep hahahaha
2012 Easter can't come any sooner peoples...LMAO
Just a little update on Bluey...
Winch all done and installed.
I also found some old KC daylighters in my brothers shed which we quickly snapped up and put on the Patrol...lol
Also, just stole a black stocking off the misses for the snorkel so thankfully didn't have to go buy one at the shops!!!
KC daylighters are spotties...Should have mentioned that bit...lol...They used to be pretty good back in the day Plassy!
Yeah it won't hurt I guess. The main reason for the stocking was to try and stop water and mud from the rear tyre flicking up as well....Oh yeah, plus It's se*xy black stockings...Reorrrr!!!!
I must be doing something wrong with my Iphone...These photos look extremely poor!!!
Bluey's getting a makeover this weekend folks.
Unfortunately I didn't post up any pics of the rust before hand but at the moment I have removed all rust from three areas.
two 5 cent pieces on roof just above gutter, 3 decent lines under the gutter's edge (same side) and surface rust on same side quater where buggalugs reversed into a tree.
At the moment, It's bogged and etch primed and ready to paint. Just picked the matched paint up today in aerosol cans. Brace yourself for the cost if you are doing this....OUCH!!!
Anyways, you get two cans...The colour in one and the gloss can with built in hardener which activates by pushing a plug in the bottom of the can...Never seen that before actually!
I'll take some before and after's this weekend and pray that I spray nice and even...lol...I used to do a lot of airbrushing in my teenage days so hoping I still have the knack...LMAO
Stay tuned!!!
EDIT: Check under your gutters for rust too. Closer inspection found 3 nice lines completely rusted through on the right hand side which is hard to notice.
Ok, so far so good...lol
Below photo is what I ended up masking to avoid hard lines. I only have hard lines on the side of the indicator, might be a hardish line on the back roof but I don't think it will be noticable once the masking tape comes off and along the contour roof line which will be hardly noticeable.
Soon find out anyway!!!
Colour is done and just waiting for it to dry now ready for the gloss.
I had just enough in the can to do the whole job with 4 coats...JUST!!!
I'm happy with the coat and happy with the blending too. There is a slight line you can see at the top of the D pillar from the primer but nothing to complain about.
Also, ignore the dents in the quarter panel. The previous owner took to it with the ball hammer and I don't think It's possible getting those out without heating up the panel and stretching, shrinking, etc to smooth out. My main priority was to get rid of the rust on the roof and I thought I would just stop the rust on the dent whilst I was doing the roof.
The roof blended perfectly. Highly recommend if your doing this to mask along the stylish GQ roof aerodynamic contour lines as this looks brilliant!!
So far so good, going to spray the gloss now!!!
Lookin very professional mate.
Ok, all done!
I am very happy with the result. The colour matched perfectly to the 21 year old faded paint, the blends are good, the coating is spot on.
The only thing which is expected, is the gloss is sparkling new compared to the original paint which does stand out a bit.
I think a good cut and polish and a month or two of wear and tear will make it unnoticeable.
This is a very easy job to do everyone. In fact after doing this I wouldn't be surprised if there is a DIY complete car body spray post in a year or two.
It's hard to show what it looks like in real life with these photos.
Anyways, how's the reflection from the windows....LMAO
Very neat and tidy job AB . goodstuff .
Mate, you could have at least got rid off the dints!!!! pretty average job mate ...lololololo
EDIT: i like how you used the light to hide the dodgy job......any ways good job for a newby..
You know I'm just kidding right???
