@MR - just about finished going through my sharpies and have roughly 5-6 of them to send to you along with with Gecko's, there will also be a tan leather pocket knife sheath in there for you as well.
Hopefully will be able to drop them off to Gecko tomorrow.
Going to bite the bullet say to speak, seeing in I have most "Timber Rattler" bowie knives.
I'm going to get the Bad ass 18" OA folder. mmuuhh muhhhh muahhhh
Also got my eye on a Ridge Runner Trapper thats at least 16" OA
Nice, got any pics of what you are after?
I have 4 knives that were put in the post yesterday on the way to me at the moment, got itchy fingers waiting for them.
The Schrade Bear Paw will more than likely be my new general purpose camp knife to go with my hunting knife and machete.

big enough I reckon, priced ok Post getting up a bit for my liking
Love my Bear Paw in your side draw sheath great combo
Both Schrade knives got picked up today, the Bear Paw is awesome, super sharp, the old timer whilst a nice knife could have been finished off better as the scale pins are rough and stick out a few mm from the scales.
Looks like I will have to mod the pins with the dremel so they don't catch and scratch the hands / clothing etc.
Also scored 5 Gerber field diamond sharpeners at the same time as buying the knives, they bring a sweet edge to the blades.

Thats the quality difference with the new Schrade knives, Its hit or miss to a certain extent.
but overall happy with my Schrade knives, I have about 6 I think
The pins were domed on 1 side and sticking out rough on the other side. Was nice to see the Bear Paw as an Uncle Henry variant.
Had this delivered the other day, needed a bigger knife for camping and also wanted a knife that one of the kids might cherish and carry if they ever get the camping bug when they have kids. Great knife out of the box, I was a bit worried buying unseen as I have big hands but this feels great. Fairly heavy but easily managed.
Thanks for the heads up for the sas shop, was looking around for a while and knew this was the one straight away!

Dean is a top bloke and looks after his customers, always happy to help answer any questions you have, I have bought quite a bit of gear from him.
The Cold Steel knives came in today, nice and sharp straight out of the box. The fixed blade has a crappy nylon sheath which will be replaced and the beaver tail in a securex sheath.
The beaver tail was a surprise, looks odd but holds well and a nice shaped, thin blade which will be great for skinning. Will also be replacing the sheath.
Time to think about what is next to add to the collection lol.
Here are the promised pics of the Schrade and Cold Steel sets that have come in over the last few days

I think I am going to be in big trouble with Mrs Gecko, have been showing Gecko some blades online and I think I have created another monster lolololol
@MR - How are you going with the selection of knives that Gecko and I sent over to you? Still confudled?

Link goes to ebay home page nobby
It appears legit with serial numbers, make sure it's a matching set. Bought munchkin a set at last year's shot show
Wine Maker has one of those, check back through the thread , and you'll see a pic
pretty common on ebay to buy that type
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141590635...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Will be getting this beauty very soon
So look what I found
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2015/05/58.jpg
Needs some tlc as the pivot is rusted but eyed it off when up at the farm last time.
It's one of a few I saw there.
Dad and my youngest brother have got the furnace up and running and have also setup one of the vices to.
Great score because it's in awesome condition, just rusted.
How much does it weigh, pull it all apart it will come up a treat I have two
a small Peter wright one abot 4" and a huge 6" number that weighs over 50kg.
You cant break them testimony that its already 150 plus years old and ready to go again
Look on the back of the fixed jaw for any makers mark, should be stamped if any.
I can tell the age by the plate that is hand forged that bolts to a bench or post.
You can buy replacement springs for them too.
worth getting it sand blasted IMO pull it all apart.
Bored Mate, lol
@ Kallen read the link as weight tells you what size etc.
Are you mounting it to a bench or free standing on some
4"x4" RHS, They look best mounted on a stump, go see your local red gum guy
he'll have a stump for you and it'll look traditional too
http://www.anvilfire.com/FAQs/blacksmith-vise.php
Well it's apart
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2015/05/59.jpg
Both screw and bolt had never seize on it so that made it easy.
Spring is in good nick so I think I'll wire wheel it and paint it.
Anyway only marking I can find is
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2015/05/60.jpg
So yea not sure mate. Nothing visible on the back jaw.
Ow and its a 5" jaw.
Unsure about mounting.
Thinking I may make a spacer for the base so I can mount it to the bench.
looking good , pack it with grease when re fitting it, marks are normally at the back of the jaw .
Looks like its a Columbia Vice so minimum 150 yrs old. Be wary of the handle to it will give a blood blister
you would not believe poss, personal experience there, lol Mine opens to about 8", bloody heavy though
Where you found the marks is called the box, also that washer type thing is a wear washer, normally a bit thicker but plenty left
for another 100 yrs eh, looking forward to seeing it re-coed, they are an awesome vice, put a 6" Dawn to shame lol
5" jaws maks it weigh aroud 60-65 lb sound right ??
FYI I paid $20 for my 6" vice on Ebay from SA and a mate
who was GM of toymoto over there freighted it over for zip on a pallet
Wow 150years.
Crazy.
Yea unsure if I'll paint it black. I might. Lol
What did they buy them as??
its awesome imo that a vice/tool made from 1836 to 1900 that hasn't changed design since the 1600's
still works today exactely as if it was made yesterday,
@ Kallen wire wheel and clear coat, paint spring black,
and a smear of never seize on that wear washer
The bolt I think has seen better days.
Where are these replacement parts you speak of??
And I'm thinking I'll wire wheel and then give it a good coat of machine oil. Or fish oil.
Or I might clear it lol.
So many choices.
Plenty of springs on Ebay , Mine was missing a large square nut
,so I made one from some 3/4 flat to keep it rustic.
If you have an Anvil fashion a new spring from an old car one,
just re-temper it
Famous German engineer used the same shape for his auto clamps
large one is 200mm the smaller are 100mm
You even see the same shape on a tool on one of those infomercials
Decided to get me a little something something. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...015/05/108.jpg
