What's the plan here mate? Just bearings and seals? Lockers?
Printable View
Front LOKKA, rear adding a shim.
Will inspect the bearings but there was no noises or issues so just axle seals and pinion seals while doing the work.
Ready to drop back in!
Nifty idea using the pump/motor bench.
Annnnnnnd done. LSD is tight as. Unsure how long that'll last. Locker is doing what it should be. So happy chap.
Its actually a diff stand we reco truck diffs in. Only just held the baby pootrol diff haha.
Yeah we use similar style tooling for our hydraulic pumps and motors for recond
Nice one. Yeah noticed that bloody massive pinion on the bench in the background
Yeh pretty big. Lot of failures still.
Couldn't resist the urge to go for a play with the diffs yesterday so headed out about 1.30. Went to labertouche. The auto locker performed brilliantly. Enabled me to just idle up big rocky steps that previously were a challenge. With the back wheel well and truly in the air, it just crawled along. For a touch over $400, an auto locker and shimming of LSD is the best bang for buck vehicle ability improvement I have done yet.
Heading up western I still couldn't drive due to massive ruts needing at least 35s and MTZs turning into mud wheels.
Car performed faultlessly and sat between 75°c and 80°c all day long. The intercooler barrel was stone cold to touch when I stopped to air up, after 5 hrs of sitting over the hot engine, proof the the water is flowing properly.
Lost a mudflap though

Unedited stuff from yesty.
Hids back on...
Hids back off. Causing electrical issues. Tried two different sets of hids, straight to the battery and the wipers come on for one cycle?
375 for the lokka. 40 for hubseals and axle seals :)
5th gear departed today. Not ideal :(
What conditions did this happen mate?
Bummer to hear to mate.
Overtook under full power. 4th into 5th and was fine. Then overtook a horse float probably 10 minutes later that was doing like 80km/h in 4th. Went for fifth at a speed I shouldn't mention which was met with a crunch and free rev.
Getting over it.
Also was pushing water into the overflow so possible head gasket issue. Need to do some more testing though.
Pretty sure its just a shotty rad cap.
Going to pull my gearbox out and build it.
Picked up some 35 claws today and new mainshaft/5th gear are here. Substantially stronger than the gq one.
Get the grinder out.
Pulled the box out today, all but down to a fine art these days haha.
Hasn't stripped splines off 5th but instead has pushed the circlip off the end of the countershaft and with it the engaging gear. New bearings and upgraded mainshaft along with new selector detents and 1st/2nd fork it should be right to rock.
Also found the source of my whine, front counter bearing had gone through hardening so it would have faily at some point.
Parts from Japan showed up today for the gearbox after the couple of week wait.
Started boxing the fridge in.
Left hand gaurd has been trimmed but needs quarter cut due to rust (plates just arrived).
Have hifill and paint to touch up and paint the quarters.
Radius spacers and bumpstops are there and ready to fit after snapping 3 of 4 bump stop bolts on removal.
Ready to mount the second battery and BCDC charger in the rear.
After all this i can hopefully go bush again.
Nice gq mate, looks good
Gearbox fixed and back in. Rust cut and plated in one side. Time consuming shit.
Getting out tomorrow in primer as i am hanging to go for a play.
Coming along nicely mate.
Ran sweet yesty. Which was good. Fun day out.
Rear diff shits me to tears. Horrible to drive on the road. 0.7mm shim was a lousy choice.
Finally after 4 months I have fitted my second bettery and charger. Dam does time get away from me!!
Heading up the Murray for 4 days this weekend to finally enjoy the car and relax.
Cheers.
Nice GQ. new in the forum post pics soon :)
Looking Nice GQ :)
Car went bloody terrific up to the Murray. Nothing to do atm. Just enjoy. Eventually fix my sill and roof bog from wiring. But no rush.
