Nice work..
How did you go setting up the little mig in the end?

Yeah pretty good mate. Playing around with the feed settings a little but the power setting has worked a treat. This bar work is a good job to tune it on as most of it's the same, a grinder fixes everything. :p
Have concentrated on slowing it down when welding to the 16mm to really get a pool into the plate. Hopefully I have achieved some penetration.
So I have been super slack with the GQ and all my bar work has sat in the back yard with surface rust all over the raw steal. I lost motivation.
I'm back into it after a weekend in the highcountry in rossco's GQ and a huge recovery the following weekend got me itchy to get muddy.
So found some motivation and for on the grinder and wire wheel and did the final clean up.
I stripped my bullbar again as the water based paint I used didn't like the UV much and went a little cloudy. I hate oil paint to use but have bit the bullet and using a quality oil based enamel etch primer and now an Oil based enamel.
3" foam roller I have found is by far the easiest way to paint bar work.

Good to see the motivation back mate and keen to see the scrub bars on, mine are still sitting in the shed damn it!
No slip joint on the scrubs to sliders?

This thread is so depressing......
When you finish yours can i tow mine down for you 2 play with and throw money at :Yahoo!:
P.S: love you work Daz
This x 2.
What is this join you are talking about? How is it done? I like it. My rear scrubs are welded from sliders to rear bar and the slip joint to the front bar is above the wheel arch. Will be a pain in the arse when I go to pull it off to replace the front guards and fix the rear.
@Dhuck Camberg tube joiners is what you need they are Awesome mate. They have a keyway to lock them in position then m8 bolts lock them up.
Under $40 each
@Dhuck here I have used them at the front of the brush bars, I also fitted them to the start of the rear scrubs to join to the sliders.Quote:

Well I've been a bit slack with the GQ but found some motivation over the last few weeks.
First thing was to get my head around the car again! Figuring what was what was actually a pretty big deal!!
Fresh eyes over everything and retrace things to figure out what I did 8 years ago and what I didn't like about it.

I've redone my Air manifolds and added the Air Freespool into the mix. Reconfiguring my switches for new tasks and making sure there is nothing left out and all will work.
Setting up a buzz bar near the single battery will tidy things up well with options to add.

I have stripped off my water to air heat exchanger off the bonnet and bought a new one and front mounted it.

I organised for my nephew to come down today for some heavy lifting. I needed to figure out if the winch would fit with the front mount in place so finally dragged out my sexy highmount and fitted it to the bar. Bloody heavy got really bloody heavy!!

If you have been following my build you know I intend to fit a through bonnet snorkel and big airbox. Well I was lucky to see someone selling one on Saturday. He was parting out his car so did a deal on a snork, airbox and cut bonnet!!
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2017/11/67.jpg
Off with the old bonnet which I will try and sell.

We are getting there. Back seat in. Left side back seat has been replaced by a fridge mount and my 24v batteries have been moved again and are all mounted up.
We are getting there!!

What a weapon Daz, holy hell, well done mate! Now I do fully understand where that top experience/advise comes from!!

And here I was thinking that the ‘HM’ winch acronym meant ‘High Mount’ - more like ‘Hauling Moderator’ ;-)

How much clearance do you have between heat exchanger and highmount? Keep in mind the body will move being on rubber mounts and may cause contact.
Ouch, top observant view Mat! Fair helpful call Daz, maybe bar forward 10mm needed from pic angle picked up by old mate?

Nice one Daz getting there. What is the heat exchanger, is that a water to air thingo for the intercooler ?
Just did a few things with my winch and is all sitting pretty snug now but still has about 10mm clearance. Was better than with the old bar tho the ratchet was sitting bout 1mm off the intercooler which is a bit close for comfort but luckily didn't give any issues.

Was gunna ask if you still had air con on it. Be keen to see how temps go in summer with air con going and that in front now too.
FINALLY some progress. Keep it going mate I wanna see this thing in action one day
I was reading back thru the thread and was shocked at the failure of the hook on the bulbar that flung off thru the fuel tank and battery. I think I might rethink using them for shock loads now.
So I did site inspection last week and this was hanging on the guys wall!

Very cool. It's a boot lid with 100s of layers of paint that he has then distressed and cleared. Turns out he is a Lecturer at TAFE in spray painting and also an industry consultant.
What your looking at was the boot lid he used to demonstrate spray painting. Layer upon layer. On the left side the paint was 15mm thick and looked like funky plywood.
Picked his brain for an hour about spraying the car. Winner. Then he picked my brain for an hour about fixing his 120yo house... Winner.

Did a little more to the GQ yesterday. Cleaned out more wiring. Removed tr he old corner airbox. So much room now!! Relocated the W2A pump again.
Went to Repco on a 30%off RACV day and bought 10m of 10amp 7 core trailer wire that I will run up to the roof to wire up the side lights rear camp lights.
Test fitted the new Lightforce Genisis HIDs. Need to buy some 20mm spacer as the bolt holding the winch hoops on is in the way of the Huge mounts of these Genisis.

Did some more work on the GQ today. Refitted the intercooler and mounted the water pump for it and the radiator overflow bottle.

Rather than stuffing around trying to poke hoses and winch cables through penetration in the radiator support panel (serious lack of options!) I used a hole saw and added one to each side.

Well after talking with Darren today, the 24th February has been set for this project to be back on the tracks!
Looking forward to it.
