Hey Cuppa, That is a pretty average time for you mate. Sounds like you dodged a bullet for sure. It sounds like a few nights at his table and he and his wife may have finally been struck down by guilt pulling this on a nice bloke with a dream. Dodgey meets Dodgey is one thing but Dodgey ripping off good blokes is a whole other issue. Maybe he pulled the pin when your moral compass defined his.
Good on you for staying on point mate and asking for him to be accountable right up to the end. That probably saved you mate. Drive on i say.
I blame Corona. I blame Covid19 an i sure as bloody Hell Blame 2020...
BRING ON 2021. THIS SHIT IS OVER!!!!
Far out Cuppa, what a story and what a dodgey bugger. . "I don't think your the type of person to own an OKA" really what the fluminy giff at least his small conscience finally set in but far out. Shattered for you guys but coulda been a terrible surprise down the track. . At least you've still got a trusty TD with ya still. .

Not really needed mate. A bit of google digging with basic innocent information known to date and I found name, surname, wife's name, company he runs, mobile no, email address, school he went to, past employers, son's name, son's occupation. Farked if I understand why people put their lives up online, especially when they're dodgy.
Actually thinking about it, lucky this prick didn't go through with his scam on our mate. Exposure central if he had.
(Maxhead, Rossco and Winnie liked this before I edited and added that last sentence.)
Shit Hodgey, horrible news mate. All the best. . .

Are you ok Hodge? Shocked & sad of course, but news like that can drag a black dog onto those who hear it?

Went out to make and install the 6mm packers for the rear of the bonnet. All straight forward, propped the bonnet, fitted the packers, then bonnet would not latch shut. Tried adjusting the catch, NUP. So took them out and made up a set of 3mm thinking 'maybe' the bonnet is just too high, same result. Took the packers out, bonnet still won't latch shut. Mechanism seems to be jamming about the time it hits the striker bar in the bonnet, cannot get it to engage locked with a screw driver pushing against the spring - maybe it has died with perfect alignment to my job - any ideas? 4 hours wasted, not happy and in worse position than I started.
Silly question but worth asking, hasn't latched itself in the process and need releasing again??. .

I have actuated the lever from the cabin over 20 times, but it all looks to be sitting in the right position, the 'mouth' of the catching tongue looks like it is triggered to receive the bonnet 'peg' then be driven down to allow the catch to rotate. The actual catch is partially closed i guess is a better description - i will have another look tomorrow, not going near the bastard again today
Couple of snaps, with the bonnet release already activated. Is this the neutral or ready to close position of the bonnet catch?Attachment 82660Attachment 82661Attachment 82662
Have you tried manually actuating it mate? The second pic looks incorrect but the third looks right to me

Nic, the second shot is the rear view of the first shot, so you think this is partially closed? the third is just the catch bar in the bonnet for reference. I can push the catch downwards, but not so the throat of the catch itself is empty. I was hoping somone could check and post a photo of the catch on an operating bonnet catch for reference? Its a total mongrel to push the plate downwards, and going backwards looks impossible - maybe its faulty?
If nobody gets pics for you tonight Phil I will grab some when we get home tomorrow.

Thanks Chris, totally over it right now. Such a bloody simple job turned to custard and simply can't find the issue - no doubt staring me right in the face. The 6mm packers under the hinges look nice and discrete when the bonnet is closed, however there is a nice little heat vent generated which will help my under bonnet temps for sure. was going to do this quick job then knock off the bilge fan installation also, but now back at square 1 after the day. Bugger bugger.....
Here is a pic of my Navara, hopefully it helps matehttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...020/12/105.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...020/12/106.jpg

Thanks Nic,
I think that is essentially what i have, but for some reason the bonnet hits the striker plate and does no go downwards enough to allow the catcher to close down on the bonnet bar - I cannot find any interference - baffling but will be simple. i have pulled the unit off the car and can't fault it. I will have another 'mum' look tomorrow and hope the culprit will be discovered. The bonnet is back in place without the spacers as well and still not closing, nothing left on the side boards or obvious.
Ok, can suggest you try inserting something similar to the rod, like a larger screwdriver and see if the action works? Then perhaps remove bump stops on each corner and work back from there? Maybe even see if you set your phone camera to record and close the bonnet to see what it is doing?

I remember having a similar issue not very long ago. It confused me for 5 mins and in the end I think I just slammed it shut harder. I don't actually know what went wrong but it has only ever played up that once and been fine since.

@PeeBee
Phil have attached a couple of pic of 08 GUIV Fwd/Aft, a bit different in the way brkt stops latch from rotating when in open position but your latch looks correct to accept bonnet U bar to lock / closed.
I raised rear of mine 5mm a while back with no imapct on latch function. May be a bit of Plasticine or similar to check alignment or maybe masking tape.
Hope pic helps.
Edit_notice U have lots of pic to choose from lol
Thanks guys, appreciate the effort and response. I will have a crack at it later today after my patience runs out with my work load for the mine. It may well be I need to slam it harder, but the last drop was 10" and it still seemed to be stopping. i will try the plasticine - think we have some in the cupboard?
Hey there Pee Bee, hows it going.
Just make sure that the safety catch is not causing the problem. It may be slightly miss aligned.
OK, after another 2 hrs jinking around it appears the mounts of the bonnet catch have bent/twisted and the catch is bending downwards, so the solution appears to first bend the legs back and then slightly elongate the mount holes to lift the assy up and allow the catch to engage. I think there may be a very slight interference with the s/c case, so the scoop opening needs a poofteenth shaved off. Finished for the day, frustration level exceeded.
So, that didn't work either, the ears of the catch mechanism are snagging on the cavity in the bonnet - looks like the entire cross strut in front of the radiator is twisted and cocking the catch over. So, I zipped down to the wreckers and bought another one. Bugger me,. still not closing. I have put 10mm of packers under the arms and the gap at the rear of the bonnet looks ok. I just need to resolve the catch - tomorrow, truck and i are not talking right now. What has changed since I closed it earlier this week and now - no idea.
Would love to offer a second set of eyes mate but I have the Christmas party tomorrow.
