Yeah totally! But I got this at a real good price and also I don't need to take it anywhere. No commuting, no need for it at work so it's either at mine or dani's place. It doesn't need expanding or customising because I have external hdd and I'm not into gaming lol. Just needs the occasional full windows reinstall hey lol
yeah i was more talkign about room for more HDDs, you can only have so many external, a laptop would look ridiculous with 7external HDDs coming out of it lol, also im not a fan of touchpads, they arent efficient enough.
yeah thats what the smaller power efficient less powerful laptop is for lol, there are 7 computers in my house. for 2 peopl thats abit of overkill right? but hey, 1 on each TV(2) 2 big laptops, 2 small laptops and 1 big mofo data server/main PC
I actually agree when it comes to a laptop the size like mine and I was hoping the insurance company would pay me out so I could get a better desktop because of the exact same thoughts.
But I do on occasions like to sit out on the back deck and use the laptop which I could never do with a desktop and I'm sure if I was to invest a little money I could customise my current desktop to how I want it
see my above comment, we posted at the same time lol
Thinking of getting a Sony bdv-2100 home theatre thing when dani moves in. What do ya reckon rusty?

Heres one for the pro's. Any pvr out that can successfully read and play bluray mkv's from a network attached storage? Plus have a bd player and large'ish hdd capacity for tv recordings?
Getting tired of using a htpc.
what operating system are you running? codecs shouldnt be an issue if your using shark007...
FYI have you seen my nerd build thread? it may be some interest to you http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...d+build+thread
My plan was to run a network from the lappy to one of my sh!tty PC's with all my HDD's in that, well that was the plan, then microsoft came along and made connecting 2 PC's impossible for the average bloke to set up :(
I wouldn't mind the touchpad if I could work out how 2 disable the click option is there is one, the amount of times I have opened things up or moved files when I didn't want 2 :(
Yes you did, my old man got it free from work and was going to give it to my daughter for Xmas a couple of years ago. Told him she can't have it because we'd got her a tablet. He gave to her the following year but she can't use it because we refuse to open up an account for her. It's sits in a drawer waiting to be thrown out
W7 Ultimate....shark007 is loaded with every codec under the sun and half never worked. Been there.... Using Haali, Matroska splitter and ffd show. IIRC. Tried shark007 and it was impossible to make 1080P MKV play smooth. I recently bought a new and faster SSD for it. Just gotta get off my rrss and reinstall Windo$e on it. As it used to play really well, except for one movie that I downloaded. Avatar. But that was a 29Gb file and it jumps around. Now its jumping around a lot now and I can't put my finger on the cause. The network or the HTPC.
I really would like to run a micro server, rather than a NAS, as I reckon this is my issue, as my other HTPC it does this on the odd occasion too. There must be a bottle neck somewhere. File transfer speeds were certainly quick enough from HTPC to NAS. But I found sometimes changing the jumbo frame size on the HTPC (when I'd get this glitch) would help. Wether it was just a coincedence? I don't know.
Anyhow, I got the shits with it and left it.
I haven't but not convinced it is that.
Actually... I do remember playing the HD mkv's from a portable hdd and they played fine. I think. Jeez. I need to just sit down, with a slab next to me and nut this out, once and for all. Getting a pvr would be easier though...
I have a DVD player. It's built into the telly and is really good.
Nic. Whats your transfer speed from say your HTPC to your server? What cable you running too? Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6.
just letting everybody know i do work in IT so if anybody needs any help i will try and help out.
sorry mark just saw your post.
i just use what ever cable i can get my hands on mark, it makes no difference on a small scale network. i have a (wired) gigabit connection to the modem from my main PC and the rest of the PC's are connected via Powerline adapters which are capable of 200mpbs, with a 10/100mbps connection at all the other PCs.
iOS flame suit is on ;)
I have a new phone and my old IPhone 4S will not register with the computer and obviously iTunes so I can back everything up.
Tried on 3 different computers and different cables different USB sockets etc.
Is there any other way I can get my photos, contacts off etc?
Nah blokes my phone seems to be knackered and not registering on a computer that its plugged in.
Ie the window does not pop up on pc registering an external device has been plugged in.
However, it does charge off pc USB.
Without taking it to someone can I somehow Bluetooth or wireless?
AB if its a samsung, make sure the screen is unlocked when you plug it in .
Ill download Itunes to my lappy and try that.
Yeah this is the same error I got at work today.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...id=56575&stc=1
