Winch maintenance request

Yea mate they are easy as to pull apart..
And yea I think 3 years is a good time to service.
I pulled mine after 2 years and found a small trace of water / moisture in my runva.
Nothing critical, wiped out and re greased and put back together..
They are very easy.

Thanks Darren, I replied on that thread. As I said I will have to check when I'm able, but suspect that getting the winch on & off may be the hard part.

Can I see a "Cuppa's winch party" coming together? :cheers:

Cuppa, I know bugger all about winches BUT we can learn together. As long as you're not in a rush.

As it is though, curiosity got the better of me & I made the effort to go & have a look at the access to the winch a short time ago. (This involved sticking a mirror on the end of a stick as laying under the car could see me stuck down there at present). It appears I was indeed informed incorrectly by whoever it was (& who's word I took) about the bullbar needing to be removed. There is a plate underneath the bullbar held on by 4 (or possibly 6) bolts which I expect is what Darren & Sooty have referred to as the 'splash guard'. That being so the job of removal just got a whole lot easier.

Darren, Sooty, would I be correct that the winch is attached to the vehicle via bolts into threaded holes in the 'feet' of the winch?

The winch is often attached by the 4 bolts into the actual bar. The fairlead bolts are often 2 of the 4 then the winch will simply fall down. It is heavy so needs support.

would it be worth pressurizing the winch for future water/river crossings
Im hopeing to do mine in the near future, just need a needle valve to
regulate the pressure needed.

Na..
For the little I do lol..
The gearbox was horizontal so I'm suspecting it's leaked threw that seal as it was quite dry.
New seal and lever is vertical now.
See how it looks in a year or 2.
