Here is a better pic of the gap I was dealing with. Not too much.

Looks good Darren. Can't wait to drive Mt Sunday with you!
Yeah the gap shown in the first pics is what it looked like after I cut the plates off to show the angle difference. That's how much I had to trim. Got them pretty close.
You've mounted them the same as I did on the troopy, I drilled and tapped 4 holes with 1/2" UNC thread,
in the corners of some 12mm square plate, then welded those plates [3] to the chassis then bolted the
steps to them. Must admit as you would know they are as strong as. You can jack the whole side off
the ground they are THAT strong.
No name cooking spray is way cheaper than anti splatter, smells better too LOL
Hi Mudrunner,
Please can you put up some more pics if you have them of the current positions of all the fuel lines and clutch etc and how you managed to mount them? I'm keen to add a snorkel and dual battery setup under the hood on the passenger side. The clips holding the current lines are all buggered on my GQ so I would see moving these as a win-win.
Cheers, Chris
Bugger sorry Chris I will sort out some pics for you mate

So did a bit to my weld on rack on Sunday. I am going to add a flat rack to the back so I can carry a bit of fire wood or whatever. The cross bars are there so I might as well.
This is how I bought the bar work
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...016/02/257.jpg
I cut it off that roof some time ago and have been planning it for ages. Time to get it done.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...016/02/258.jpg
So I'm going to add 5 bars running front to back then weld mesh on top of that. As I said, it will not change the height of the rack at all so I might as well.
I cleaned off the paint at the 5 points so I could weld the new tube on.
I test fitted the first one.

So I don't have a notching machine but watched a pretty cool YouTube vid a few months ago which explained notching without a notcher well. Piece of piss!!
So. This is how it's done.

Measure your tube diameter.
My tube was 25mm.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...016/02/260.jpg
This system uses 1/3s. Divide the diameter of your tube into 1/3s. My tube is 25mm so 8mm is approx 1/3.
My tube needs notching at both ends so I ADD. 1/3 to both ends (16mm) and cut to length.
Put a mark on top and bottom of tube dead centre. (The longest part of the notch)
Now put a ring around the tube 1/3 back from the end (8mm on my tube)
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...016/02/261.jpg
Now place the tube in your cut off saw. Centre mark straight up. You want to set the angle of the cut to be end of tube at the centre line back to cutting on you 1/3 line on the side.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...016/02/262.jpg
Then spin the tube over and your bottom centre Mark will let you do the opposing cut.!!
Your Done!!!

Clean the up with a grinder if needed!
Straight off the cut off saw!!

Come up good I think. Need to clean up my welds and weld the mesh on top. Then strip all the paint off it and prime and paint ready to weld onto my roof!!
