Mate, this rebuild has had its ups and downs but I must say that this rig of yours is looking a million bucks! Well done. This has given me a boost of confidence that I can get mine back on the road in the next 18 months or so.

Still working on the rear bar over at Scottys place (big thanks to him for his efforts) bit of a mission indeed, ive given up counting the hours many people have put into this, at least we have finally worked out how to mount the lights, here is a pic of where we are at, with the lights just sitting there......

Still got light mounts to finish, plus a chequer plate top/step, a couple of other panels, and then mudflaps.
Got my small spotties in the lower section of the front bar now as well, only took so long as i wanted to make them hard to steal, otherwise i could have bolted them on months ago.

Ive angled them out to the side and i want to get some spread lenses for them, then ive got a excuse as to why i fitted/needed them (other than cosmetics, the real reason,lol)

04OFF, I have spent the last hour reading all your ups and downs from the beginning. Most people I think would have parted ways with their car and started with a fresh one. What you have done with your troll is in my eyes absolutely brilliant. That car is a real credit to you, and I hope it serves you well for years to come.
When can you start work on mine. I just need/ want everything new and shiny.

I had some pics with the bar sitting on the car, but the SD card in my ph died taking them with it, soon as its all on ill post some pics.
These are all I have of the bar as it looks now, bar will be black, and the bow shackles will be getting powder coated white as shown ......

Not really knowing the way, it didn't go exactly to plan, we ended up goin "in" from the road you came out of last time, ive plotted a few spots in my GPS so should be a bit easier next time.
Soon as my rear bar is on, you and Troy (and anyone else keen) will be getting hit up to continue that rock hill climb we saw late at night last time, just hope we can get in before you are enlisted for daddy duty i guess :thumbup:

Did a final mock up with the rear bar and mud flaps today.
This bar has taken Scotty and myself 12 months (on and off) to create , its a bit of a combo of other peoples tube bars ive seen, and a lot of my own ideas, its been a painful journey as we are not fabricators, yet I still would not settle for second best or "good enough", Scotty has gone above and beyond to satisfy my wishes (thanks buddy), I hope this post may help explain why it has taken soooo long :wink:
I wanted a rear bar that looked good, had exceptional clearance for off roading (no more ripping bumber lights out), was practical for everyday usage (retained a rear step), and was QLD legal, lights, mudflaps etc, it took ages, but I think we've done well for a couple of old hacks (loL)
Apologies for the water mark, but its for good reason (previous picture theft), BTW,"S&S" stands for Scotty & Steve (lol) and sorry, we are not making any more bars. :wink:

As I mentioned before, bow shackles will be white as shown, the lights are fully submersible LED, and are a ADR approved lamp/s, they have Park, Stop, turn lights as well as a reflector, to the best of my research, they are also positioned to meet ADR requirements.

Thick steel plate under the corners to match my sliders, they have large cut outs to drain water/mud, the exhaust will be replaced once the bar is installed, it will get tucked up higher for better clearance (its lower than factory ATM)

My mrs is pretty short, plus I have a younger daughter, so retaining a usable rear step is important, the top surface of the lower rear step is actually just lower than the factory alloy step.
As you can see, the top surface of the bar has also been made into one big step, its a larger surface than the factory step, and great for access to the fridge/back of car, and very helpful for extra height to step up onto the spare tyre (to get onto roof basket), the top step is cut to follow the profile of the rear quarters (not shown), and extends well under the rear cargo bodywork for a clean finish.
It looks close, but full access to the hitch receiver is not hampered if I still wish to tow something.

MUDFLAPS
I hate chains on mudflaps, so I decided for off road use, I will remove the flaps, I already had a quick release rod idea that requires no tools for removal , I think it should work well.
From Tony's (YNOT) suggestion (thanks tone), we made mudflap brackets to bolt on to the chassis just like my sliders.
My idea for the quick release came from my Gazebo legs and works exactly the same, a spring loaded button you push with one finger, and the blue bar just slides out easy as, of course with it comes the mudflap, and no tools required, and you can't drop or loose a pin/nut etc.
Flaps not fixed to bar yet, will use nut inserts on the flap side, so you wont see any ugly nuts on the side facing the tyre.

You can see the silver button at the bottom (below pic), I put the button at the bottom so its hole will act as a natural drain hole in the mount, it also lets me see if the hole is blocked before I re-install the mudflaps, plus hides the fact the mudflaps can be removed without tools.
You can see the blue bar is exposed a little at the chassis end, this gap is to allow any mud trapped in the mount to fall/push out when I re-insert the mudflaps, rather than compact up if it was a dead end, this same end of the blue bar will have a rubber foot/stopper inserted to help prevent rubbing and rattling.
The outer end of the blue bar will have a plastic end trim, of course the blue bars will be powder coated black, they are a slightly sloppy fit to allow for powder coat thickness, but even unfinished, I was surprized they don't seem to rattle when driving around.

Mudflaps cover the tyre tread nicely , and hang just below the 300mm maximum height to meet ADRs.
Ive still got some panels to make in the rear inner guard area to prevent excessive mud ingress, but that's tomorrows job... :clownredpuff:

I saw one at bcf today that looks the same just not with the lower step and the chequre plate sections under the doors are open other than that they're identical, unless you have beat up your gu and ditched your paint job for plain white lol . Ill put pics up when I get home
Yes Troy, you can buy that basic tube frame that looks similar, its a awesome shape, and that basic tube frame is what mine was modelled on, I actually bought one of those to start with, and wanted the guy that made it to do all my custom mods to it, he agreed, made lots of promises, but actually did nothing more for me but waste my time.
Long story short, I got dicked around big time, deadlines past, the guy stopped answering my calls, ignored me totally, never returned messages, so after another 2 weeks of this, I got the message, and decided to sell the bar he made and go elsewhere, but he then stole the for sale photos I posted on gumtree of my car with the bar on, and used them on his facebook page, I asked him to remove them, but they are still there.
(that's why the watermark is on my pics)
With wait time and stuffing around, all this wasted about 2 months of my life.
I then went to another custom bar place to have pretty much the same thing made from scratch to my design, this place kept my car for a month (four weeks to the day), and in the mean time my brand new batteries somehow got flat ,and nothing got done on the bar, another week later I had no bar, so I cracked the poos and left.
This is how I ended up at Scotty's, so yeh, you see I never ever wanted to do a bar myself, I loved the first bar I bought, but just needed a few things to be able to use it steps/lights/mudflaps etc, its cost me more than any "pro" would have charged, and soooo much time, but, as you can understand, I just got sick of going around in circles with clowns. :clownredpuff::clownredpuff:
