2001 GU blown zd30 di & Getting TD42 converted and cleaned up

Recently purchased a 2001 GU (ST Model) with a blown zd30 di, absolutely immaculate not a spec of rust or barely a scratch. Looking under the rig it is as clean as the outside, can tell it has lived the majority of its life on the road. Now its booked in with the patrol specialists, unfortunately I have to wait until the end of July/start of August before they can make a start on it because they are so busy. But dam I am excited! Getting a TD42 conversion with either genuine or DTS turbo kit, 3 inch exhaust and a tune (He said over the phone they ususally get them sitting somewhere between 15-20 psi). These boys handpick the motors themselves and the price we have agreed on is a locked in tow in drive out price with warranty. Would love to hear peoples thoughts on the turbo as I'm considering speaking to him to see if I can upgrade to a better kit, And also what recommendations do people have for me to do to the body while it's sitting waiting to be towed away. I'm already going to make the engine bay and underbody spotless and probably do diff oils and brakes/rotors.

The GU is going to be used as a daily driver as well as visiting Glass House Mountains and doing beach trips regulatory. I plan on keeping it pretty standard for the first while (mainly because this is already consuming my wallet +more). I already have a 37L Engel fridge/freezer so one of the first upgrades will probably be the kings rear draw system with an upgraded fridge dropdown.

Can't wait to start wheeling and be sitting back in a 4x4 again, look forward to reading the responses. :)

So i reckon you should be looking at what you are buying to be honest. If you are buying a second hand 11mm Pump then How Much is it? versus a 12mm UFI straight off the bat. Same goes the Turbo / Turbo Kit you are buying. Seriously you are spending Good coin and may be getting a Half cooked version of what could be.

In that thread above is my journey from go to wohh. All done as Maintenance when Upgrades / replacements where needed. OMFG there is no comparison. Night and Day. No Way would i be paying even $1500 for a factory turbo setup when you can put that towards a better system. Same goes the Pump. if you are buying New then be it 12mm. Dont stuff around. de-tune if you like but dont waste cash mate. spend it right first time. Unlock the potential any time you like or detune and enjoy.

Trying my best to do it right the first time, unfortunately I do lack a lot of mechanical knowledge so I do have to have a lot of faith in the mechanic.

Run it past the forum here before you lock in your hard earned mate. UFI will build you a brand new pump for what ever horsepower you're after. It'll need a bit more fuel if you wanna run 20psi. Give them a call and tell them what you want. Helped steer me in the right direction. There are plenty of other reputable pump/turbo specialists out there too, I just liked the service from UFI. Just do a bit of shopping around for your turbo and pump. Don't let the mechanic lock you into a standard pump and turbo for a premium price.

Edit: I also meant to say that UFI were quite reasonably priced and will give you good advice between 11 & 12mm pumps depending on your budget and hp build.

Yeah I defiantly think I'm going to have some questions for him that's for sure!
Just sucks that he's so busy right now I don't really want to bother him until my cars getting towed to his shop, and due to them being a patrol wrecker as well I think a lot of it depends on what's in stock at the time.
