Hi all, ive got a 1990 4.2 petrol/gas, electronic ignition. Prob I am having at the mo, she wont start on petrol. starts fine on gas everytime, but with petrol she fires, then stalls and she wont restart. Once up and going on gas and you flick her to petrol, it runs fine, but sometimes she coughs like a bitch and really struggles chouch spluterring in 1sdt, 2nd then runs. Also every now and then it will cough a bit in 3rd only on petrol. Now I cleaned out the injectors (just with the fuel additive stuff, did that twice at full strentgh) and it runs, idles alot better once it has warmed up and ran a few klms with petrol under her belt.
Any help certainly appreciated.
haha noticed my gq is also unisex, its a bastard when it wont start but i refer to it as her ;)

Is there petrol being delivered to the injectors mate? Pull the line off the fuel filter and throw a small bottle on the end, kick the ignition in the guts (short hit) and see if fuel comes through into the bottle - if so, then it could be the filter is blocked, or stuffed injectors ... If no fuel, it could be the fuel pump relay or the pump itself.
Do that first and we can go from there.

check your spark plugs, leads and points did you advance your timeing to much as gas will runn better that way but not so good on petrol

Hey all, it seems it won't even run on fuel at all now. I have got a lead issue at the moment I need to sort out. It's running rough as and struggles going up hills... So it's an under load issue presumably a crook lead... Check that later but the fuel issue... Any ideas?

Fuel pump. Pretty standard. Sometimes itll run. Other times itll run like a dog. Sometimes just wont run at all.
If you dont want to change a pump. Can put a gauge on it and check pressures.
Check the fuel filter in the engine bay, actually just replace it. They are cheap.

Hmm... How much for a fuel pump roughly? Probably wouldn't hurt it to do so.
