Mate I hate to burst your bubble after all that seemingly hard work & effort you've put in to getting your gear but next time say well clear of Telstra shops & head for the auto elecs. They carry & install all that sort of gear for most all phones & what they don't have they'll get, not to mention the fact they'd be cheeper then a Telstra shop as well.

Give Yendor a yell in here, He's an auto elec in that aria & he may be able to sort the fitting for ya.

but will look up yendor and will see what he has to offer. thanks patch.

Hi Hekarewe, I got specific cradle, bracket and Antenna for $300 all up http://www.comnet.com.au/ I think they are still a better cheaper option and the owner/manager is very nice.

Stupid question, the 3G aerials for the car extend the 'receiver' range of the 3G network - right? They do this for 3G signal, but would have to be network independent - right?

So if those questions weren't stupid enough, here comes the doozy!!

So I've got 3G signal reception, but no 'network' coverage from my provider - what's the point of the aerial? Or by picking up 3G are you actually extending the range of your network and subsequently picking up whatever provider you're with?

Make sense?? lmao

wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks scotty my head DIDNT hurt untill i read that!!!!!!

right i will try and make sense of this,,, i was with optus but they could only give me limited 3G coverage depending on there own coverage of the area ie not all repeaters aust wide only telstra from my understanding can give aust wide 3G coverage on all their repeaters.

how it works is this when you start getting out of range of towers/coverage the signal drops to 860 hertz this then increases range of the signal adding the airel means that the range of the signal is not impeaded by the inside of the car and gives your a better ground plain which then extends range by to 10 to 15 klms terran allowing hiller the country the more interruptions there will be out in flat country performance is better

for my knowledge of it,,,,, as limited as it is only telestra can have access to all repeaters aust wide Danny put the same system on his rollux and raved about the increase in coverage which is why i went for it. hope that helps its all i remember from the info overload i got of the sales rep yesterday. be good to see the difference once it is all fitted. now i am running through a blue tooth unit so anyone who is on telstra with blue tooth should be able to hook and use the airel with out effecting my account will also be able to use the the phone as modem and then hook up lap top through it as well this will be really testing my techno mind as feable as it is LOL hope this helps!!!! if it dont tough luck sorry ROFLMAO

Thanks boss - I get the technology ... just the repeater station bit that confused me (i.e. what's the worth of 3G if you have no carrier signal - I'm with Virgin who use Optus' network and quite frankly, it's crap!!).

Bummer - we are about 2 months into the new 24 month plan with Virgin ... although Optus is doing a major national upgrade ... which will probably be finishing sometime around the end of my current contract I reckon!! lmao
