what do you know about Safari Engineering Turbo Kits TD42

What do you guys think of the Safari Turbo Kit, the proper one from Safari 4x4 Engineering - the mob in South Croydon Vic? (Not the cheapie ebay specials called safari turbo)
Ive put it in the mix of contenders for my N/A GQ td42 auto wagon for a reliable touring set up. DTS being the other option.

Would love to hear from those that are running one in their rig, or those that know a bit about the kit in general. Looks like the most factory-aftermarket kit going..if you get my drift.

The info I got from one of the guys Safari office is they've been running their version of the Mitsubishi TD06 turbo unit since about 2008. The TD06 is a bigger unit than the TD05 overall and supposedly more suited to larger capacity engines. Tells me that the TD05 was originally designed for an engine capacity of 2 to 2.5 litres and that its pretty much maxed out on the TD42 in mild applications......
I know that was a bit of a comment that would stir up a few, his words not mine. Im taking that with a bit of salt.

Now of course they're trying to sell it to me, and doing a reasonable job i might add. Not bloody cheap though, probably the most expensive kit out there for a TD42 ($4394 + 875 for 3" full exhaust + installation)

But my trucks a keeper so only the good gear gets bolted up, not just best value for money, you often get what you pay for for this sort of thing, but just want t check the opinions of others to help with this sort of decision before i throw good $$$ away.

Holy shoit! Thats not cheap. A full 3inch system for my TD GU was $720. So this leaves you with well over 3.5K for the turbo and the $875 is for the install. Why couldn't you do this yourself? UFI is over your way, I know their wait times aren't the best but they are close atleast...
I haven't heard of them to be honest but I'm still new to the TD scene. Have you looked at Garret?
You need to change the exhaust manifold too dont you. DTS one is about $650...

I thought safari stopped producing the kits years ago. This is the same safari as the snorkels yeah? I've got a safari kit in mine and are pretty happy with it. Could do with more power however the injector pump is the limiting factor at the moment. Seems to be good overall good bottom end but not sure which turbo is on mine (what its based on). Its a very original looking kit which i like i have the safari front mount intercooler too which i like. Kind of comparable to the dts kit i reckon.

Safari still list them on their site.

5k would be much more reasonable for supply and fit. Exhaust price is a little exuberant. I can tell you that trade price is pretty much half that cost.

I've decided that I prefer the Garrett intercooled set up from HP diesel over the safari. Partly due to cost, but mainly the airbox set up using a ZD30 and intercooler routing to the intake manifold from HPD kit is more to my preference. Plus they'll supply a true bolt on compatible 3 inch exhaust to suit the turbo kits dump pipe flange without having to modify anything.
The safari kits are just plain dear, simple as that, the installers don't make double the mark up on any kit out there. 30% is pretty standard I've found.
