Pretty much the same with me mate.

However I needed the tyres and suspension first due to the tyres being pretty crap and the suspension and shockies flogged out. I got the suspension done a week ago. So now I am just really need the bullbar/winch, snorkel and rear bar (with wheel carrier).

What does she need to for rego?

garett
10th March 2015, 05:09 PM
shocks are so gone its got uneven wear on tyres, also sits drivers side down due to spring sag, for rego right now prob need to put all the door handles and grill, locks, oh and cant forget to put the windscreen back in ... she's being painted this week, gone with an industrial two pac of white, have all ready fixed the speedo, afore mentioned rust, and a/c is now working, and replaced radio and speakers cos old ones no workies

my other car has had msd 6al installed, overhauled engine, new exhaust, radio, speakers, seat, tinted, rims-painted, rear drum to disc conversion, gear linkage bushes, lights, wiper arms, springs, shocks, carby overhaul, remote central locking, oversized battery. it now needs a new 2nd hand gearbox but waiting for it to die completely.

garett

have been told by the painter that i should get my mav back tues... if so i might even get it home by sat .. this is what happens when u get your paint at cost, and do half the work yourself. the roof has been painted and it looks good, just really waiting to get some more stuff done.

lookin at springs and shocks. can get king springs cheap. (happy with this brand running on my other car now). can get monroe magnums cheap as well, just wondering if these will be good enough for mostly touring work with a little off road. with a 2 -3 inch lift do i need to trim the spring perch or anything. they are 51 mm shocks so pretty thick. asking as my mav is in the paint shop stilll... new finish date is mon.

Majestic
23rd March 2015, 01:31 PM
I got new 2" king heavy duty springs recently (got them off ebay with shockies) and really happy with them so far. I haven't taken her off road yet as she still has a lot of work to do.

checking h/brake rear brakes. hand brake was packed full of mud..and drum is right on the max, no wonder it wasn't really working. rear brakes are new so i dont have to replace them. yay something i dont have to fix, o wait one side is possibly over extending.. or just poor adj from the installer

threedogs
6th April 2015, 01:12 PM
looking good buddy love your thinking and your work,

Is there any way to stop mud getting into the hand brake
by maybe running an air hose to it to pressurize during water, bog holes etc
Similar to what they do with a petrol dizzy and a winch

garett
6th April 2015, 01:21 PM
not really it dosn't even remotely seal. putting in the plugs for the adj might help cos one is missing the other is broken.

garett
18th June 2015, 01:53 PM
hoping to do both so it is a compromise, going with progressive rate springs and heavy duty shocks hoping it gives a good enough ride and at 50mm higher a little better clearance. got some dynamat to put around to quieten that td42 a bit .. lol, maybe a blower later but not in a rush $$ are in short supply. my daily drive is 26 years old and needs a new gearbox...

ok so been driving it around and it suffers from scps....(squeaky clutch pedal syndrome) driving me nuts. everytime i press the clutch squeeeeeeek. thats like 4 times before i get to 30k/hr as it squeeks in and out arrrg. so pedal is out looking for where this is coming from

garett
12th November 2015, 11:38 AM
pulled it apart thinking just grease some bushes ...... yeah right there was no bushes and it had worn nearly 5 mm into the housing... time to weld in some washers. made some bushes from some plastic put it all back with some grease and done, no more squeak for awhile. when i figure out how to post photos from my phone i'll put some up.

Give the diff and surrounding areas a really good clean with degreaser. Hopefully then you will be able to see where the oil is coming from. A little bit of oil can go a long way

i found a rattle yay. turns out the drivers side bonnet hinge is completely cactus. and the passenger side isn't far behind.
only rattled at idle stopped at a set of lights. not all the time. had the window open and put my hand on the bonnet and it stopped.

Don't have some spare mud flaps with half decent brackets and a passenger side rear bar indicator brake light by any chance garett ?

And whats with the black bonnet?

garett
2nd February 2017, 08:34 PM
i know a guy that had mudflaps next time i see him i'll ask if hes got em still. but i think they will say ford. :P they would be brand new though. mine never had lights in the bar. just the ones beside the doors. still got the original bar...

oh the matt black bonnet reduces the glare. works quite well looks a bit silly but it functional.

well I am back in the country, gotta organise a few things and go get the ford patrol. since I parked it the clutch has stopped clutching, as much info as I have been given so when I get there it will be fun, don't think near 3000 km with out a clutch would be ideal. yes after sitting for over 3 years I am gunna drive it, far, as it has no rego and will get rego in a different state, so a permit is in order. I have the use of a perentie (Land Rover fans will know these). I thought my na td42 was slow ... oh boy, it does beat walking not by much, but it does.

garett
15th February 2022, 02:49 PM
well after a few phone calls it sounds like the clutch master has gone bye bye, just need to source one then bolt it on when I get there, sounds like the rest of it is ok, just the usual fluid change and I should be fine. the question is do I put vac assist in..

When You do find that nipple and 99% of modern day service mechanics are lost too, a stagnant vehicle of its age will possibly require a stiff piece of say MIG wire to strategically clear its 90 degree bleed points if that makes nuffy MB sense?

Yeah sorta like the clutch bleed point under the bonnet on the passenger side. Not everyone knows about it. But before she got parked up it got it's brake fluid changed and the brake proportional valve was nice clean and free flowing. The front left bleeder seized in solid and took oil and patience to get loose. I ended up replacing all the hoses in the front end I don't wanna blow one on the highway..

It was this caused our need to be put on a tow truck half way up the Kuranda Road from Cairns. Clutch jammed, slave cylinder wouldn't release. Car was not driveable. quick question , would a panel air filter A1358 have enough air flow for a turbo td42 ?
and i currently have the landrover engine spread across a workbench ...

I’ve been running a Black Mamba Airbox on my TD42 with 8psi Safari turbo for a few happy years now thanks to Guru Forum advice on here Garret Mate:

The Airbox itself was nearly $800 but the paper A1358 filters are only circa $15 and spares pack in the back really well being slimline rectangular [emoji736][emoji736]

would it be at all possible to run a tape measure over the box , and a couple photos of the sealing surfaces ?
i would appreciate it, save me some time designing a box from scratch.

Apologies Garrett Mate, just a bit time poor at the moment, next week if you remind me I’ll take 5 [emoji106][emoji106]
Must say though, the one I bought is beautifully engineered and constructed to seal without falter as I’ve tested deep under Tasmanian windscreen sludge. The lip/seal on this thing is extremely well CNC routed I assume to fit the A1358 above and below compressed to perfection [emoji736][emoji736]
