Apologies Garrett Mate, just a bit time poor at the moment, next week if you remind me I’ll take 5 [emoji106][emoji106]
Must say though, the one I bought is beautifully engineered and constructed to seal without falter as I’ve tested deep under Tasmanian windscreen sludge. The lip/seal on this thing is extremely well CNC routed I assume to fit the A1358 above and below compressed to perfection [emoji736][emoji736]

no worries mate its gunna be a few months before i start work on the mav, i also have to weld and brace the inner guard, sort some suspension fun, fuel pump, injectors and contemplate a rotary exhaust...
she needs a little bit of love

What is a rotary exaust?

its a turbo ... lol

it was how my brother got, getting a turbo past his partner ...

garett
5th September 2022, 07:10 PM
well i should have secured a turbo kit ... and i need to sort the suspension on the front ... want to stay with the 2 inch lift but nicer shocks and hybrid radius arms seem the go.

hopefully this weekend i can get the landrover engine back together

garett
19th September 2022, 11:22 AM
well i have most of the bits to put a turbo on my car, missing one or two important bits ... like a turbo and exhaust pipe.
managed to have my steering damper explode all over my front diff..

Do have an honest near new (50kish) usage Safari air compressor and all its connecting intake/exhaust goodies removed in the shed if you want Garrett Mate?
It’s done what I asked of it and paid for itself around our great land for work. It only runs at circa 8-10psi without intercooler and helped a lot but did start chewing 500,000k rings and overheating piston tops found mostly during last 2.2T hauling headwinds run to Darwin [emoji22]

i'll pass then, i got hold of a factory gu setup but the turbo is knacked, got all the lines an manifolds etc. been thinking a borg warner is the go, i can get one of them off the shelf local around the corner from work.

garett

woot i have death wobbles .... without a steering damper its quite fun on the highway ... really need to finish this landrover ...

11th October 2022, 04:18 PM
i got a delivery of suspension parts ... on a pallet

garett
16th October 2022, 12:32 PM
fitting new radius arms ... lining up the last bolt is interesting, ratchet strap and jacks make it easier by yourself. found out my shocks were dead panhard bushes gone radius arm bushes gone inner axle seal is gone..
i'm not looking at the rear end ... that can be future garetts problem.

BrazilianY60
17th October 2022, 09:48 AM
When I did mine, a bottle jack on the pinion side of the diff center helped a lot to "fine tune" the alignment of the radius arm and axle housing holes.

garett
17th October 2022, 04:09 PM
well now i have driven it with the new radius arms and shocks ... no death wobble ... still gunna change more parts as they are not good.
last time i did this i had a hoist ... soo much easier

garett
30th November 2022, 03:58 PM
i may have ordered more parts ...

i got around to cleaning them manifolds up, going to try and paint the exhaust in ceramic. then wrap it,
looking for the fuel pump and a couple more bits, but i think i have most of what i need now.

i used a sandblasting cabinet, then smoothed out the casting inside with die grinders and flap wheels.

Yeah I reckon my 12mm is wasted too. 11mm would do the same as I am now but probably with less soot. Lol.

for the wheel bearings it used to have 2 nuts and a thin bit of metal you would bend. now its a nut and a plate that has screws to hold it together

new gearbox mounts, most of the exhaust is in place, few more bits to get hold of then i can start fitting up the rest.
once this is all done i can fix the a/c and rear suspension bushes, deck out the back redo the rear bar.

Is the boost electronic controlled on that turbo?
Is it too big of a turbo for the TD? I noticed it required spacers at the manifold.

the manifold had a t3 size flange the turbo has a t25. needed an adapter to fit.
i have a mechanical control for the wastegate just not put it on yet.
i was lead to believe its the correct size ... i guess i will find out in a few weeks.

ok so i'm down to bleeding the fuel system, priming the turbo with oil, adding coolant, oil change, make a coolant bottle, make the intercooler fit somehow. and connect the new senders.
re run diff breather and vacuum line. move the ac hoses/get the ac working, rear suspension bushes, fit the kitchen make the boxes over the rear guards......
and now fix the power steering belt tensioner.

BrazilianY60

My honest apologies for sounding nasty and do love your work [emoji736][emoji106]
Genuinely concerned though about firewall issues of flex & impact between the mounting extremities, hopefully I’m just being a worry wart [emoji1696]
Not sure what brand your stainless 4” clamps on your Beaut air intake system are too? I had bought similar looking, anti-seize sticked every single one during installation on my setup and still found over 50% were galled, so deliberately replaced the entire lot for future maintenance ease [emoji51]

Garrett, I think the load on the very small steel sections will let you down. There isn't much deflection strength in this assy, the welds at the RHS to Angle interface will fatigue very early. The frame is going to be subject to every vertical motion and I will say its a great concept but ultimately wont last the distance. Anyway give it a whirl I guess but I hope it does not come adrift in some awkward location and do further damage.

Plasnart
30th March 2024, 06:25 PM
I got no idea what it is just yet but MB I don’t see much impact strength in that flat bar section.

What the deuce is it anyway Garrett?

PeeBee
30th March 2024, 06:27 PM

I dont think the frame size has enough column strength and the frame is not substantial enough to resist much MB, its a fairly flimsy configuration I think, looking at the mount location its in the center of the firewall with only a single 90 deg column, 25mm rhs - they should be OK I reckon. If anything it will fold up pretty easily I think.

the frame is less substantial then the bonnet and the engine block, am running some bracing under the joins, hopefully it lasts long enough so i can save up for a proper kit.

put coolant in it and fresh oil. replaced the filters, wired the cooling fan for the intercooler, painted the frame and made a exhaust manifold shield.
just got to sort from the inter cooler to the manifold.. then do all the prestarts.

i fired it up today.... need to sort a catch can.
it idles a bit high.. 800 cold it used to be 600.
at idle it got to 100 deg exhaust temp only ran it for 15 mins or so to bleed coolant etc.

doing the rear bushes and one of the nuts picked up the thread.
hopefully this stops it from pulling left under throttle.(half of the bushes were busted)
this leaves only the rear panhard that isn't new.

took the car down the highway, at 110 km/hr i sit on 300 deg egt.and about 0.5 bar at the manifold.

also trying to rebuild the front seat, not happy with the falcon seats, i sit too high.

i rebuilt the blower fan and working on revamping the ac.
