Use some electrical jack chain to hold them back off the tyres
Dont use jack chain, if any little stick or something gets caught it will straighten out a link and fall off. Use cheap, solid link chain from a hardware store.

EDIT: The turn off is left at the Rural Fire Station.
Also,To get to the pub you would go right where the sign sais" Jeringle" and the pub is about 200m .

OK I assume that got your attention:
No one has mentioned it but what's the plan if it's a 'Severe' or 'Extreme' Fire Danger Rating over this weekend?
Don't want to be a party popper but I've been involved in a couple of wild fires and have no desire to ever repeat that.
Looks like it's an isolated entry with only one exit:
How clear/safe/fireproof in the camping area?
Is there any type of communications/monitoring of threats available?

Thanks for bringing this up Jack.
I've been paying perticular attention to see what would happen if a severe fire came through and I am confident to say we would be safe in the valley but I can not guarantee that.
It is very green currently and there is predicted 100+mm of rain in the next week and a little more further on.
I have and will again mow everything very short especially around the fire place. I have also slashed a lot of grass further from the camp ground but didn't finish the job as I broke the slasher...LOL
I also have a fire fighting pump with 50m hose in case..
Unfortunatelly, there is only one way in/out to the top gate but from there, there are a number of roads out. Also being up high nearly right on top of Great Dividing range you get to see whats comming. I also have radio reception so we could get updates incase there is a fire.
If the Fire Danger is going to be severe or extreme I will call in to the Captains Falt station to let them know we are having a shindig and organise a UHF channel to monitor.
That should cover it...next...LOL

Anyone coming from Cooma on Monaro Hwy without towing I would recommend turning right at Michelago and going through the Tinderry ranges(on Tinderry Rd) and turning right at Jerangle road, then turning left onto Anembo road. From there thake a left onto either Tumanang Fire Trail or Bald Peak Rd which will take you to my property.Or go bit further and do the Flat Ridge trail or Jerrabattgulla road(which the Bald Peak joins onto anyway) all these are on the map
This would cut a heap of time from traveling on the hwy and Tinderry is an awesome drive and so is the tracks off Anembo rd.

Ok, I've got confirmation I can get a spit for the long weekend. It can only hold about 15-20kg.
Should we get a small pig or do like 3 big roasts(beef, lamb, pork) or do what George did at Mattys??

I've been giving this trip a heck of a lot of consideration and unfortunately for me I'm going to rule myself out. It's just too far for me to travel at this time and I need to be a bit kind to myself as I'll be returning to work for the first time in 8 weeks just a week beforehand.
It really pains me to make the call as it's a massive crew, would be an awesome weekend and I'm keen to check out Krisso's piece of paradise. If last years edition was anything to go by, this year it should be a cracker!
Have a great trip up there and I'm sure I'll see most of you again around another fire some time later this year.

Slightly off topic, the car gods just want to make my life hard ATM. Yesterday on the way home from wedding venue shopping, the dualis decided to shit itself and started missing. Turns out it's dropped a coil pack.
I just can't win with cars ATM. It's at the same mechanic the patrol is at and he took pity on me and the predicament. It will definitely be ready for the meetup, but if it isn't I'm still coming, will just be arriving in a tough as guts VW Polo!
Can't wait to see you all soon guys, looking forward to meeting some new faces!

Ok, I'm thinking I'll do 3 huge roasts on the spit one night and maybe a small pig another so we'll need some sides to go with it. Maybe every camp could provide a small salad or anything else to go with the meat.
We don't want 20 garden salads so maybe everyone could post up what they can provide so we dont all do the same thing...

Put me down for either a Watermelon and Onion salad or roast potatoes, pumpkin and beetroot with sour cream.
Still trying to convince the wife to come along. She is a little shy and was asking if there were any other females/families going. She is also worried about the toilet and shower facilities. (Bloody city slickers....) I am going out to buy a portable loo seat to put over the hole and going to also get a shower bucket for her. Hopefully that wil convince her to come along.

make sure you make this one thing apparent:
the meetups arent just about 4wding, last time it was about 40% when we were at the brindebellas, the rest of the time we were swimming in the creek, having a laugh and telling a story, taking some excellent snaps, maybe even just kicking a footy around or relaxing by the campfire. she will thoroughly enjoy herself and come home feeling nice and relaxed if she comes

G'day everyone,
Kris posted some instructions on how to get to his place earlier on in this thread but I found them a little difficult as Google Maps labels some of the roads down there a little differently. So I have created some simple instructions as well as a map that you can view and follow on Google Maps.
They start at the intersection of Captains Flat Road and S Forest Way. You will be able to create a "Directions to here" at this point from wherever you are traveling from.
If you have any questions just let me know:
Directions to Kris's place.
1. Turnoff from Captains Flat Road onto S Forest Way is -35.630910, 149.521592 (https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/35%C2%B037'51.3%22S+149%C2%B031'17.7%22E/@-35.63091,149.521592,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0)
2. Follow S Forest Way to the fork at Gum Creek Road and S Forest Way, veer to the left and stay on S Forest Way. 35°41'26.5"S 149°32'06.6"E (https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/35%C2%B041'26.5%22S+149%C2%B032'06.6%22E/@-35.6906944,149.5351667,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0)

Wow, kinda missed the whole cook up thing, looks like a massive feast is in order. I can do some roast spuds in the fire, maybe Torpie ones if Winnie can get a sack full. . . Looks like salads are pretty well sorted. I can bring some home grown eggs as well if needed.
Have got a few maps and done a bit of research of the area. Looks like there's some pretty cool sights to be seen (sound a bit like old Coighty - "The most scenic scenery to be seen. With mountains that stretch for as far as the eye can see. . . And even further with binoculars)!! Ahh anyways . . . The Big Hole, Wyanbene caves and the Bendethera caves all look pretty impressive. All in limestone country with big openings and stalagtights etc, a little bit of walking involved but not too far about a couple of K's to each. Might need to work off that sticky date anyway by the sounds of it. . .

Ok, quick update.
After 90 odd mm of rain the place is green as but the roads are a bit rougher but fine to get into. We can get a lot of whinching practice just in the back yard as the whole place is like a big swamp...LOL
Hopefully no more rain till the meet but I think a bit is due early next week so it could be wet as the ground is slow draining.
Any way
The place is ready to party...YeeeeHaaaa!!!
