Yeah it was pretty straight forward mate.
I had to swap rear passenger windows as per the other thread as the plastic brackets were brittle which took a bit of stuffing around but if you were just doing a straight swap of mechanisms then easy job.

Dents need fixing, re paint effected areas, etc
I've ripped 2 of my flares apart and I need to think of a whole new way of flares at least 90-100mm to cover the extension of the GU diffs without looking mean.
I've taken out my entire rear drawer system for the panel beater tomorrow so I'm going to start again with that too.
Then I'll look at that but yes a little more love would be nice that's for sure.

I rang a few Body auto shops and they all just colour match to the code otherwise min quanity of 10 litres.

Interesting though their system does not list any Patrols as Patrol only Infiniti, even GQ's?

I'm happy with my spray but holy crap the colour is completely different!
Too light for my body but way off the foster doors making the car look very mismatched to be honest.
How can I make this look somewhat unifiedish <--- new word that should be in the dictionary!!
Would a full cut and polish help?
Take it down a track of destruction to scratch up the entire LHS of the car of the new doors and panel spray or suck it up princess and wait until summer for a basic full outer spray of vehicle?
Or give Lachy a red bull and a bucket of stones for finger painting?
This will annoy me everyday I walk past it :(
It's my fault I guess getting the guy to try and match the petrol cap on the other side which was severely scratched up and looks like this colour!!!

Nah that is shit AB. Im colour blind and that is miles away from a match mate. Take the car down to the paint store and get him to match it. Or ask an auto paint shop to do a code match for you. Even if you pay the guy $20 to come outside with his big colour book and get the right code then take that code to superchrap for a can.

If this is going to annoy you into the next dimension, drive it down to the panel guy who sprays rossco's shell and get him to colour match and spray it for you. At some point you will have to compromise on the match anyway as the back won't be the same as the sides or the roof or inside the glovebox. If thats too difficult spray it candy apple pink which would look really HOT

Pretty well what I was saying too but ask him just to give you a paint code for his colour match. Give him $20 for his time or ask him to mix up a 1lt pot.
The guy I bought my paint from had a colour swatch book that had maybe 200 different whites!!! He would certainly be able to give you a code using his swatch book.

Thread dig!
Not much has happened with the old girl but I have noticed a small amount of coolant loss only when towing the 2 tonne van.
No bubbles, no oil contamination, etc so just came home with a new radiator cap from Patrolapart as I think its not been sucking coolant back in from the overflow and saw what looked like residue on the overflow outlet.
Hopefully an easy fix, I highly doubt I have a head gasket issue so fingers crossed.
Got a 110 OEM cap as well so going to hook up the van and give it a reaming!
EDIT: Pretty sure it is the cap because on the way up to Murrindindi it got a little bit hot up the slide (my famous hill) and it lost a cup of coolant but on the way back home its an easy run down hill, temps fine and just checked coolant with zero loss so fingers firmly crossed!

I've found that the lip of the radiator can get scored, pitted or slightly out of shape, which weakens the seal. Polishing it with a bit of very fine grade wet'n'dry glued to a flat piece of wood will show any problems in the early stages of rubbing and should fix them with a little bit of elbow grease.

Ok, huge update!
After 12 months of leaking radiator and overheating issues it looks to be all solved!
OEM radiator and UFI fan hub assembly from Patrolapart.
Just drove back from Patrolapart, pretty hot day and gave it a roostering up the infamous radiator hill tester and it didn't get above 82 degrees.
Those temps only last week in same weather was seeing 95-100, gobsmacked by the difference, heard a lot about the UFI fan and using OEM radiator and huge tick!!!

I asked the question of ADRAD when ordering mine, 84mm or 56mm , their cores are in 28mm modules and they categorically said 56. The thicker radiators are for trucks with great flow thru ventilation or static installations with no back pressure, as is not found under a bonnet. As I mentioned in a previous post, they actually flow test with water and air with their designs. So deeper isnt better in most cases.
Andy, you might recall I destroyed a fanblade doing the river crossing at Burgoynes? My fan blades would have been 30mm off the core I reckon and that was too close, and it actually scored the fins as 6 blades broke off. I ended up running a Toyota FJ60 fan blade which had a better offset, increasing clearance to 45mm. I didnt have problems from then on, but what was interesting is the fan blades actually flatten out and extend under load. I know this because the ears of the new fan blades or tips had a 15mm x 3mm chewed out piece and the only thing that could account for it were the tek screws I used to secure the shroud extension. Just a heads up if you start to look at a different plastic blade, watch out for the overall diameter

Well I hope that is the magic number as well because the new kit coming my way has a Duramax fan, monster diameter, and a shortened hub shaft so the blades stay at 45mm as existing. My only 'fear' is that BD have swapped the water pump to some higher volume unit than the 45mm clearance was set up for, so I will have to chase this up.

As for your temp I think Nulon have a product called Wetter Water it helps the water
fill all the corners preventing Cavitation. I had no end of heating problems with mt other 4x4 with the SBC
it was only after I brought the GU I figured it out, I sat on 110kph coming home from the murray on black saturday
ran like a top. Then sitting in it I flicked the VDO temp gauge and yep fixed it ran another brand and never had another problem
never got any return on the thousands I spent trying to keep it running "normal". Moral not all brand name gauges work as they
should,
as for the GU it used to stay at 85 on the hwy after fixing the head its
now running slightly higher compression and runs around 90 on a very hot day with air con on

I recently put two brand new balanced tyres on the front and still had the wobbles.
I just put the exact old tyres back on but reversed them and just came back from a drive, no more wobbles???
I took it to all the spots I know gets the wobbles and nothing, a couple of little wobbles here and there but they stopped quickly and was only minor.
How can that be?
Same tyres but just on different sides, ok, original sides crazy wobbles, brand new tyres same wobbles.
All been balanced, etc.

I recently had the dreaded wobbles. I even had the tyres balanced and rotated at two different shops. The only way I found the culprit was to raise the Ol Trol on wooden blocks under the chassis. I then put the hubs in and started the engine and put it in 2nd gear. I used a length of wood to measure how out of round each tyre was. I found one so bad I swapped it out with the spare. On the test drive the wobbles were finally gone, but seemed to be ready to start again.. Even now with new tyres and rims, it feels as if the wobbles might start up again, especially on a long right hand curve.

Hi Team,
I'm still playing around with trying to fix the nasty wobbles on my GQ, time is difficult lately.
I'm going to check out King Pin bearings next and I might just replace them anyway.
I'm not overly keen on just removing a shim like some have done.
The question I have is if I replace the bearings with the same brand which I assume would be the Koyo's (need to confirm this when checking them) would you need to bother with removing everything inside and checking the preload or would it be fine to just replace with new and go?
BrazilianY60
7th December 2023, 10:45 AM
Bear in mind that even if you replace the king pin bearings, you would still need to gauge the tork with an assortment of shims. So, in my humble oppinion, if your current bearings are good (no marks, smooth turning movements) I would really just re-stack the shims accordingly to achieve the manual load.
AB

Thanks mate, I understand the shims and preload so they sit nicely above and below and I understand the shims purpose of machining tolerances of the knuckle in the factory but if they are the exact same brand bearings replaced than surely the bearings are bang on with size and will match the shims already in place to suit?

It could very well be, but honestly, out of coincidence. I wouldn't count on that.
You see, if one bearing race is pressed a little less onto the knuckle seat, the shimming would be different. Bottom line is, shimming is the final adjustment on a king pin by king pin basis.

Installed a water tank today for the GQ, I can’t think of any other way to secure it, thoughts on this way with straps?
Looks ugly but???
The tanks tapered so it sits snug against angled cargo barrier.

Maybe a piece of 50x50 ally angle like this? Checked out on the sides to screw onto frame, good chunk of foam or soft rubber to stop rubbing.87683
.......from under the great down under.

I dont think it will move with the strap, full or empty, everything else is just added weight I reckon, its wedged into the cargo barrier.
