I just bought some dyneema 10mm rope from this ebay seller (http://stores.ebay.com.au/Best-Deals-Direct/Dyneema-Rope-10mm-x-28m-/_i.html?_fsub=2143945016&_sid=712690956&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322) about 30 minutes ago. After a couple of emails back & forth I'm getting a 28metre winch rope, & a 30 metre winch extension rope (loops both ends - a 'custom order') for $400 delivered. Only downside is that I have to wait around 4 weeks for the 'custom order', which is no skin off my nose.

That's a good deal, its crazy the prices you can pay if you went retail though.

Make sure it is a comfortable fit as if you run as long as possible rope when you are trying to do a recovery in a difficult situation the rope loads up on one side of the drum and you find it does not fit... does that make sense!!!
I have damaged cable from it being a tight fit and grinding against the bars that run along the winch.

Same winch as me & of course I wanted to go as long as possible. My 'internet research' suggested that 28 metres of 10mm was best, but that 30 metres could be squeezed on with careful spooling. I decided to go with the 28 to help avoid any possibility of tangles etc. But with a 30 metre extension rope too. The rope is lighter & more easily stored than yet another long thick strap.......... says the man with no recovery experience whatsoever!

I run the 30 mtr ebay rope on my xd9000. Great stuff. But watch when winching that the rope doesn't bunch to one side. Mine did this when my son was winching. I was at the back of the vehicle, Busted both drum supports. cost me $245 for new drum supports. I got xp9500 drum supports instead of xd9000 as they offer better water resistance. cheers.

I'm thinking of designing a small bracket to stop braking the winch casing.
if you think its worth while PM wouldn't cost much.,,,,,,,,,,,,use a winch extension strap for extra distance IMO

Couldn't agree more...
I usually stay out of synthetic rope threads because my view is that unless you are comping or winching a hell of a lot then cable is actually better. It is more forgiving to abuse, much less prone to bird nesting on the drum with fluctuating loads, conducts heat away from the winch brake heaps better, cheaper to replace if you stuff it and less likely to deform the drum.
I def wouldn't pack the drum to the max for the sake of a bit of extra distance
Yes, cable has disadvantages as well and synthetic is way easier to temporarily splice. just pointing out a few issues to be aware of is all...

The 2 main reasons I went to Dyneema was 1 weight reduction over front end,
and 2 the safety factor
