AB

The aircon on the GQ is not working. Fuse is ok and just noticed that the clutch is not engaging on the A/C.

Anything else I can check or do, replace or am I better of just getting a whole new one???

Great time of the year to happen....grrrr!!!!!!!!

It may be out of gas. Don't muck about with it - take it to an aircon place.

Hey AB - the A/C clutch will not engage if the system is de-pressurised or running at low pressure. You may have a leak? Or just need a top-up? I'd not run it until you get it sorted, but sounds to me like you need some more refrigerant in there as a starting point.

Thanks guys, I was about to ask if the clutch wont engage with low pressure so thats most likely it.

I just hooked up power to the relay and it clicks, so all good on that side....It stopped up at QLD meet up after running full time for days for the first time in months.

Going to be a steamy hot drive today!!!!

Drop in to an A/C mob... they'll tell you straight away with the gauges if it is the dual pressure switch, low gas charge or whatever.

If it's low gas or a failed switch you'll be back on the road with working A/C quick smart anyway

AB, if you pop your bonnet the A/C canister is mounted behind the right side head light next to the radiator. On the top of it is a typical Pressure switch similar to the one used by ARB diff locks. There are 2 wires coming out of the top of it and it is a Positive Switch circuit. If you take those 2 wires off you can bridge them for a second or 2 with the motor running an the A/C turned on, this will bypass the low pressure switch. If your A/C fires up then your out of Gas. ;) 20 Second test in your driveway.

Hahaha, can imagine BA sitting in his GQ in his driveway and typing that on a laptop while he relaxes in the Lovely and Cold A/c.

I replaced the AC pump on my missus' Pajero recently, still have to get the sumbitch regassed. Better do it soon before she kills me in my sleep.

Hey Dazz, mine has 4 wires going to it?

Do you know which one is which?

How do you get the wires off or just unscrew the housing and expose it underneath...I was lazy and just saw 4 wires and stopped....lol?

Your talking about cannister with the viewing glass yes?

So many questions, another question mark for fun?

If you follow the harness about 3 or 4 inches away from the receiver dryer there should be a connector.

Good chance on the other side of this connector there are only 2 wires and they should be green.

If it does have 4 wires the other 2 will just be for an electric thermo fan.

Just confirming a slow leak in the lines and getting it regassed next week. It was all original 1990 and hoses/clamps were frail.

When I first started my trade the old R12 A/C gas was that cheap we use to cool down our beers on a Friday afternoon by spraying the gas over them.

Yep, there's a hole in the ozone layer with my name on it. :(

Yendor do they still weigh the gas after they remove it, check for leaks and replace it again ???Hope that made sense to you

I'm not sure what the current standard work practices are. I've been out of the trade for a long time. I suspect it would be highly influenced by legislation now.

Back then you didn't recover the old gas from the system you just released it to the atmosphere.

It wasn't until it became public knowledge about the damage it was doing to the ozone layer that the government had to do something about it.

So they started taxing the crap out of the R12 gas, it then became viable for companies to purchase recovery machines.

Weighing the gas (taking into account the temperature of the day) has always been the correct way of filling an A/C system.
