Gday all, So I'm really not to sure where to go from here engine wise, The engine I have in my patrol atm is a stock standard rb30 3l, And I'm after upgrading or replacing the engine to somewhat to have more power/torque for better 4x4. I have about $3000-$4500 to spend and I'm not sure what direction what to go in, If you had 3-$4500 to spend, What would you do?

Not sure mate, truth be told - can you turbo the rb's to get respectable power without compromising the engine too much?? I know they do for rice burners, but really don't know what that equates to for a 4wd that weighs twice as much, and needs low down power (not revving the @rse off it).

Hmmm ... donor engine with everything sort of done but with a few miles on it?? Just a tickle up and a service with most this done??

Anyone else??

Try get a rear ended written of y62 with the 5.8 v8... That would be insane..

I'd keep saving as engine conversion are somewhat more expensive.

I would get a tb42 they are cheap to buy, and work it N/A, I havnt seen others that are worked and I dont know what they are capable of N/A but im keen to see. hopefully ozzyboy gets into his soon HINT HINT lmao

or better still a tb48. a mate has one in a gq and its making about 260 at the tyres with just a tune.

But at 20L per 100k it's a little hungry..
You could Work a deisel NA.. Increase compression and flow, and fuel..

I had a mate that had a GQ that bolted up a turbo to his TB42 and ran it on straight LPG on 15psi boost with a water to air intercooler and never had any dramas, it handled it well because of the factory flat top pistons but he used to drive it like he stole it and quite often if i was taking my rx7 on a car cruise he used to bring it and give r33 skylines , 180sx's and silvia's a run for their money. If u could find a cheap donor car with a good motor the conversion would be easy and you wouldn't need a engineers cert coz its was a factory option fir the car and running straight LPG means u can remove most of the pollution gear off it and not have to worry about the EPA here in vic.

A small block 350 conversion could be done for the price your looking at. Plenty of bolt on parts available for those motors and the motors are easy sourced. A 350 doesnt need a lot to run and will pull bet than a rb30 down low. The other option is injecting your rb30 and sourcing some turbo bits for it but it will still be a peaky motor for a 4wd.

I got rb30. Ive fallen in love with it lol. Crawler gears is what i would do. Its the going very slow that gets me, cant just clutch off and crawl
