My GQ is off to the auto electricians for a few days (Weeks) to get some work done. Honestly its stuff I could have done myself, but it turned into one of those 'while its there for X I may as well get everything else done' kind of deal.
I bit the bullet and bought a new air conditioning compressor as no one bothered to reply to my emails despite them saying they had TB42's in stock and I didn't want to buy a second hand one with no warranty etc anyway. Cost me a bit of coin but at least its warranted and something the truck really needs (gets hot up here, plus as its going to be our family camper it needs to be comfy).
I'm also having my spot/spread Narva bull lights converted to 100w HID's and having a 400mm LED flood strip light wired in (going to run it on parkers so I can use it on high or low beam, or as a work light when I pull up to camp)
And finally I'm getting my new Crane Cams XI-6 ignition wired in. It apparently has 3 times more spark output than the earlier systems between 0-1500rpm (where my truck spends the majority of its time) and it SHOULD allow it to start on gas. Previously, with the old system, I could start it on gas but it took a bit of cranking however now, it should fire much easier.
And of course now the truck is gone, my roof basket, roof lights, roof bag, jack mount, diff/transfer/gearbox breathers, windscreen light mounts, Ironman fridge, Mean Mother compressor ALL arrive, don't they.... So instead of tinkering with my truck on my day off and adding the jewellery, I have half a shop worth of 4WD accessories sitting in my lounge room waiting for the truck to get back so I can start to put my stuff onto it!
I also still have drop boxes, bushes, wheel bearings, brake pads, swivel hub kits etc to fit to it, but that will be in a few weeks time when I have access to a hoist and air compressor. And a manual as i've never done it before.
BTW, i'm also looking at running F&R lockers, mainly as i'll be eventually towing a van on some tracks to go camping with the family, but also as I love mud running and 2 locked diffs would be better than 2 open wheels. Any advice/comments either way with lockers? Do they require any more care/maintenance than a regular diff centre? do they require a special oil? I'm looking at the chinese variant @ $1500 for the pair, as opposed to the other brands which run at about $1100ea. Is there anyone running the chinese alternative? Mine will be normally off, and my understanding is they're a fairly simple system operated by air with not too many parts to fail. If I was to have the centre properly installed and shimmed up correctly, would it be fair to say that they're going to be good enough for a casual 4WD-er who wants a bit more grip once every few months when it rains?
