My GQ is off to the auto electricians for a few days (Weeks) to get some work done. Honestly its stuff I could have done myself, but it turned into one of those 'while its there for X I may as well get everything else done' kind of deal.

I bit the bullet and bought a new air conditioning compressor as no one bothered to reply to my emails despite them saying they had TB42's in stock and I didn't want to buy a second hand one with no warranty etc anyway. Cost me a bit of coin but at least its warranted and something the truck really needs (gets hot up here, plus as its going to be our family camper it needs to be comfy).

I'm also having my spot/spread Narva bull lights converted to 100w HID's and having a 400mm LED flood strip light wired in (going to run it on parkers so I can use it on high or low beam, or as a work light when I pull up to camp)

And finally I'm getting my new Crane Cams XI-6 ignition wired in. It apparently has 3 times more spark output than the earlier systems between 0-1500rpm (where my truck spends the majority of its time) and it SHOULD allow it to start on gas. Previously, with the old system, I could start it on gas but it took a bit of cranking however now, it should fire much easier.

And of course now the truck is gone, my roof basket, roof lights, roof bag, jack mount, diff/transfer/gearbox breathers, windscreen light mounts, Ironman fridge, Mean Mother compressor ALL arrive, don't they.... So instead of tinkering with my truck on my day off and adding the jewellery, I have half a shop worth of 4WD accessories sitting in my lounge room waiting for the truck to get back so I can start to put my stuff onto it!

I also still have drop boxes, bushes, wheel bearings, brake pads, swivel hub kits etc to fit to it, but that will be in a few weeks time when I have access to a hoist and air compressor. And a manual as i've never done it before.

BTW, i'm also looking at running F&R lockers, mainly as i'll be eventually towing a van on some tracks to go camping with the family, but also as I love mud running and 2 locked diffs would be better than 2 open wheels. Any advice/comments either way with lockers? Do they require any more care/maintenance than a regular diff centre? do they require a special oil? I'm looking at the chinese variant @ $1500 for the pair, as opposed to the other brands which run at about $1100ea. Is there anyone running the chinese alternative? Mine will be normally off, and my understanding is they're a fairly simple system operated by air with not too many parts to fail. If I was to have the centre properly installed and shimmed up correctly, would it be fair to say that they're going to be good enough for a casual 4WD-er who wants a bit more grip once every few months when it rains?

With what you have stated that you want to do I would be getting your rear lsd working properly and put a lockrite in the front this could possibly be done for less than 1000 and you still run all your normal oils and will be probably the most reliable way to go.

I don't think the rear actually has a LSD in it. There isn't anything on the diff that says it is. I have to do a fluid change all thru so i'll pay some attention to it in when I drop the fluids.

It may just be worn a little and needs adjustment but as far as i know all GQs came with a rear lsd. There is a way to test this jack the rear end up so both wheels are off the ground and car in neutral if you spin one wheel and the other goes in the same direction its an lsd if the other wheel spins the opposite direction its an open diff.

As nissannewby says except im a fan of auto lockers namely the "LoKKa" brand http://www.4wdsystems.com.au/index.php?id=29 in the front and get your rear working well and there wont be a lot thatll stop ya mate. There was some guys here a while back that were fitting the chinese air lockers but havent heard back from them (maybe theyre stuck out back of Bourke with blown lockers/diffs) would truely suck to have a stuffed diff mate. I fitted my Lokka myself for a grand total of $398 plus oil. They cost around $400 for someone else to fit

Yeah I'll be fitting it myself, I saw the Lokka's on eBay but was weary because of the price. ARB are around $1150 and these Chinese copies are meant to be a clone of them.

I know a fair few people running the auto lockers (lokka) and they work perfect and have no issues whatsoever they are well priced for what you gain and are just as reliable as the arb air locker.

Yeah it's like that mate, I can tell you! My fridge is in the hallway so I kick it every time I get up in the night and the kids love it to crawl on/over/around, at least it's strong! All I need now is my winch bar and my rear drawers and I have everything for it to go and do what I bought it for.
