    ZD30DDTi rebuild

Hi, I've just joined up today, so I hope I am posting correctly.

We have a Patrol that's timing chain has snapped, it has already had a recon motor put in a while ago and now way out of warranty.

My other half is keen to try a rebuild himself, he is mechanically minded. He pulled it down today to inspect the damage and the valves are straight but have 'stamped' the pistons.

Has anyone done a full rebuild themselves? Looking for advice and maybe some idea of the financial damage either way please?

I'm trying to attach a couple of pictures below. Thank you

    G’day Not a Fan Mate.
Apologies, I am definitely not a mechanic but there does unfortunately appear to be a lot of possibly previous heat related engine issues on some of the heads valve seats too

Hello, I think the pistons are stamped so I think the repair cost will be quite large. Any advice for this issue?

Now 35,000 kms (3yrs back) did a CRD head gasket, while in there installed a new head (just in case) _ complete head assy from North Victorian engines (NVE/Cobram, Vic) no problems to date give them a call.

    https://www.northvicengines.com.au/

Pistons were Mahle (std) and had crowns ceramic coated, Riken ring set / SMS

Give SMS a call as well _ heads / studs /pistons etc :

I'd like to have a crack at rebuilding a spare engine, if I had money to burn
