What do you mean by a beginner, exactly? It doesn't matter if you're a child or a grown-up To give you an idea, my 9-year-old is wearing a similar-sized bow. Also, avoid Chinese junk; a well-known brand secondhand is preferable. Just to mention a few, there's Hoyt Bear Bowtech PSE. This bow, on the other hand, isn't adorned with anything.
Check difference between Compound bow vs recurve bow?
I'm not sure what the prior owner did, but there isn't anything there now.
Question: What is the difference between a compound bow and a recurve bow?

A properly designed compound bow uses a series of pulleys with a "tipping point". Once you have drawn the bow string past that point it becomes easy to hold the string and aim the at the target. Once released the string accelerates back past the tipping point, which adds power to the arrow.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

I use a 70lb recurve and a 45lb horse bow on the odd bunny around here though did nail a fox with my recurve. I'm sorta a traditionalist and even use black powder firearms occasionally, a 58cal musketoon though I do have modern firearms too.
